Vocational View God sent His Son Jesus to teach people of the Father’s love and plan for salvation. Jesus continues to send priests, sisters, deacons and brothers to the world to continue His work of salvation. If you think God is calling you to do this, call Fr. Andrew Merrick at (225) 336-8778, [email protected].
Please Note! We do not mail out bulletins for the last week in December. Please pick up your December 29th bulletin in the Narthex at church.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The church office will be closed December 24th through the 26th for the Christmas holiday. We will also be closed on December 31st and January 1st for the New Year holiday.
Upcoming Bible Study No Greater Love is a five-part Bible study program starting March 2nd and ending April 6th. This class will be offered twice a day, once at 9:15 AM and again at 6 PM. The cost is $25 per person and the deadline to sign up is February 10th. Please call Monice Oliphant in the church office for more information or if you would like to sign up for the bible study.
Chalking of the Doors
Please join us this year as we partake in a centuries old tradition of chalking the doors of our homes. On January the 5th, after the Epiphany Masses we will have blessed chalk in the narthex available to anyone who would like to participate in the chalking of the doors.
With your blessed chalk, please write 20 + C + M + B + 20 above the entrance of your home. The letters have two meanings. First they represent the initials of the Magi— Caspar, Malchior, and Balthazar— who came to visit Jesus in His first home. They also abbreviate the Latin phrase “Christus mansionem benedicat: May Christ bless this house.” The “+” signs represent the cross and the numbers 20 and 20 represent the year, together meaning “Christ bless this home and all those who dwell in it.”
The chalking above the door is an outward way of showing our dedication to our Lord and Savior. For more information about this age old tradition, please visit www.onepeterfive.com. Remember to pickup your chalk Epiphany weekend with a handout with full instructions and prayers.
Morning of Reflection
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary has extended an invitation to their 9th annual Morning of Reflection on January 11, 2020 from 8:30 am until noon in the Parish Hall. Kara Klein Oubre, internationally known speaker, singer, and songwriter will be the
presenter. She will give her personal testimony through word and music.
Kara has spent the last 15 years traveling the globe, sharing her love for Jesus Christ through testimony and worship. She has released 5 original albums, won 6 Unity Awards by the United Catholic Music and Video Association, and has appeared on five international television programs. Encountering countless women with the same struggle to find their true identity in Christ lit a fire in her heart to help found her ministry, His Own. She currently lives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with her husband, Robert, and their son, Benjamin.
Kara also co-hosts Overflow, a 1-hour weekly radio show on Catholic Radio that features Catholic musicians and songwriters. Overflow is distributed nationally to Catholic radio stations.
The Handmaids of the Lord organization at St. John’s sponsors the Morning of Reflection. This group encourages fellowship among women and fosters a joyful sharing of our faith with each other. They endeavor to spread the love of Christ to all, with an emphasis on feminine spirituality as modeled by Our Lady. The mission is accomplished through Bible study, review of Catholic literature and prayer.
The morning will include brunch and babysitting will be provided upon request. For babysitting one must RSVP and can do so by emailing [email protected] or by calling the church office at 225-654-5778 no later than Friday January 10. The event is free of charge and women of all faiths are invited to attend. Although the focus is on women’s issues, men are also invited to attend.
