From the President….I hope everyone is signed up for the State Miata Roundup November 10 through November 13.

We had a couple of good rides to Louisiana with Mary and David Wharton and a trip to the Texas State Fair with Richard Rogers and Terrie Campbell. Both events were well organized and managed. A big thanks to Richard & Terrie and Mary & David for their usual excellent job getting it all organized. At the Texas State Fair we had a record 39 cars in attendance, Thanks again Richard & Terrie. Mary & David led a great ride to Lafayette for a Cajun Food Tour. The ride through southeast Texas was perfect with cooler weather, slightly overcast skies, great scenery, lakes, and some twisty roads. We also went to the Sweet Dough Pie Festival in Grand Coteau, LA. Well done Mary & David. For those who missed it we are planning for a return trip next year. The return trip may include options for other events or tours.

Below are some of the upcoming events:

• 11/10 – 11/13 the Houston Miata Club will be hosting the Texas Miata Roundup in Huntsville. Check-in will begin Thursday afternoon the 10th with dinner on your own and socializing. Friday will consist of fun runs, dinner on your own, and Karaoke (being able to sing and having fun at Karaoke are only remotely related). Saturday the 12th will be different fun runs, time to rest up, and then the banquet. Sunday is still being planned. More information, including motels can be found at: http://internetcarclubs.com/Events/TexasMiataRoundup2016.aspx

• 11/6 - The Dallas Marathon is a 26 mile route through downtown and uptown Dallas, and includes going around White Rock Lake. Web site: www.dallasmarathon.com. The 2016 Marathon is paying tribute to the race's history, dating back to 1971, by running at White Rock Lake and also featuring revitalized neighborhoods like Lower Greenville and Deep Ellum. Our annual drive along the route will start in Downtown Dallas near the intersection of Young and Griffin Streets, adjacent to Pioneer Plaza.

• 12/10 – Christmas Lights Ride to Ardmore, OK – Details TBD

• 4/17/17 – U-Pick’um Berry run

• 8/19 – 8/22/17 – Solar Eclipse Ride to Cape Girardeau, MO

I have new 6” & 8” round LSMC car magnets. The 6” will cost $17/pair and 8” are $12 /pair. You can pick them up at the monthly club meeting or one of the club events.

The 2017 Texas Miata Challenge locations have been posted on Internet car clubs web site. We get to eat our way around Texas as all of the locations are restaurants that have been listed in the top 50 in Texas Monthly magazine.

Our next meeting is at TBD, Christmas Party

Enjoy the ride no matter where you go.

Bruce Gibson, LSMC president

Texas Miata Roundup 2016 Hosted by the Houston Miata Club Nov. 10 thru 13, 2016

If you have come to this site you already know something about the Texas Miata Roundup. It began in the late 1990s with the intention of bringing Miatas, which later became the bestselling roadster in history, and their owners together for a long weekend filled with comradeship and fun centered on the Miata. The strong friendships that have formed over the years were an added bonus. The Roundup is held annually, typically in the fall. In past years it has been based in Galveston, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Alpine, and Denton. We Texans are fortunate in that we can find scenery to please our mood. We have desert to forest to plains to lakes and the Gulf of Mexico via Galveston Bay. We may have to do some driving to see it all, but driving a Miata makes it that much more fun.

The goal of the Texas Miata Roundup is a top notch event, fellowship, fun roads, beautiful scenery and Texas style food, the most important goal being FUN for all who participate. Because of that, the reputation of the Roundup has spread throughout the USA and even into Canada. You will see license plates from most any state, and all are welcome. You do not have to belong to one of the Texas Miata Clubs to participate. All you need is a Miata. For 2016 the Texas Miata Roundup will be Nov. 10-13 in Huntsville. Check-in will begin Nov. 10 (Thursday afternoon) at the Hampton Inn, which will be base camp for the event.

Huntsville is the county seat of Walker County. It is approximately 70 miles north of Houston on Interstate 45 and located in the East Texas Piney Woods. Huntsville is the home of Sam Houston State University and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Huntsville’s founding dates back to 1836 when a trading post was established, with a post office following in 1837. Huntsville became the home of Sam Houston, who served as the president of the Republic of Texas and then governor of the state of Texas. General Sam Houston led the Texas Army in the Battle of San Jacinto, where victory gained independence from Mexico. Huntsville has an extremely rich history and was an easy choice for this year’s Roundup.

Don’t forget the LSMC website http://www.internetcarclubs.com/Clubs/LoneStarMiataClub.aspx

Doug Dodgen has been working on the website to make it the best place to check information about the club. He has added the yearly calendar so you can plan for upcoming rides. Keep in mind that dates are subject to change. Members can log in and modify their contact information as well as add a profile picture. You will no longer get a PDF directory of members. If you have questions about editing your information, please contact Doug. The main page of the Lone Star Miata Club part of the website contains a link to our www.LSMiata.org Wordpress site where links to newsletters and events will continue to be published. Check us out at http://www.internetcarclubs.com/Clubs/LoneStarMiataClub.aspx! If you have not renewed your membership for 2016, please do so ASAP. You will be removed from the club roster and from Evites after March 30. Remember the new dues structure is $39 for couples who both want to join, and $30 for singles. Your dues go toward doorprizes, club insurance, and supplementing costs for annual events such as the Christmas party and picnic.

Newsletter Submissions & Distribution Ads, announcements, articles, trip reports and other contributions to the newsletter are encouraged. Email submissions to [email protected]. Attachments may be in .pdf, .txt, Word or WordPerfect format. Pictures may be in any of the usual formats such as .gif, .jpg, png, etc. If I have any problems with document or picture format, I will contact you. Don’t worry about spelling, grammar, artwork, layout, etc. I’m just pleased to receive input and will take care of the editing and cosmetics! Also, if you find something interesting online, please send me the link. Input is welcome anytime, but must be received prior to the publishing deadline (usually the first of the month) to be in the next issue. NOTE: If you want the newsletter sent to more than one email address, your secondary driver, or anyone else, please send your name (so I know you’re a member) and the email address(es) to [email protected]. ANOTHER NOTE: Member in Good Standing (you’ve paid your dues) may submit ad copy or info on their business. Does not have to be a Miata- or car-related business, but it must be your business. Others may advertise, too, for a fee. Contact the [email protected] for details.

Two-Way Radios For more fun on drives, if you don’t have a two-way radio, get one. Without one, you miss out on a lot of chat and decision making as to stops, etc. Most importantly, should you get separated from the group or have car trouble; it makes it much easier for us to find you and assist you! LSMC uses GMRS/FRS radios for better range and reception. An operating license is not required when used in the FRS range.

Stuff for Sale and Announcements LSMC permits all members in good standing to place a free ad or event announcement in the LSMC Newsletter. The item should relate to the Miata or Club activities. This includes activities hosted by other clubs, Car-related events of general interest are also welcome. Contact the editor at [email protected] to place an ad or announcement.

Change of Address & Member Info Be sure to keep your contact information and particularly your email address up-to-date; you don’t want to miss anything! Submit your email address, snail mail address, new car info and any other contact information changes to the Membership Officer at [email protected]. A form also is available on our website.
