The world into which Jesus was born was a world of hopeless bondage. People were enslaved to all kinds of sin and selfish desires. But this did not stop the love of God from coming to each and every single person. Even the Jewish leaders of Jesus’ day were spiritually blind and refused to accept His message of love and forgiveness. They were bound by tradition and the Law of Moses as they interpreted it to fit their own needs. God’s Son came to set them free from the bondage of sin and false piety, but they refused to listen to the wondrous message of Christmas. They saw Jesus only as the son of Joseph the carpenter and a good teacher and certainly not the Son of God. But to those who dared to believe in Jesus as the Messiah, a wonderful freedom was given. The spiritual blindness that once covered their eyes was lifted.

Faith was the one requirement. Good words and human promises were not enlisted. In reality, the works and deeds of our flesh are no match for the infinite love and compassion of God’s Son. In Luke 4:18 Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah; “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden.” Freedom beings with Jesus. No matter what has a hold of your life, His love is strong enough to break the bondage. Jesus came because of people like you and me who desperately need His eternal love and forgiveness. My hope for you this Christmas, is that you will let Him set you free to be all God has planned for you to become. I begin a new sermon series this Sunday I’ve entitled, Christmas Wonder. We’ll explore the wonder of His eternal plan, the wonder of promises kept, the wonder of His miraculous birth and the wonder of a Merry Christmas. I encourage you to invite someone to church with you as we worship our wonderful Savior. As in years past, Tina and I invite you to our home on December 17 for our annual drop-in. We love opening our home to our church family as we celebrate the season. This is our gift to you so come enjoy the fellowship and the food! Last but not least, from our family to yours...we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

Sunday, December 24th @ 5:30

Kindergarten News We collected over 250 food items for HIM during our Spirit Week in November. We also celebrated the first Thanksgiving with our little Pilgrims and Indians. December will be busy as we learn about the true meaning of Christmas along with our academics. We will have Open House and our Christmas Program on December 14 at 6:00. Christmas Break will begin on December 18 and we will return on January 2nd. Our Scholarship Money is growing! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fund! My staff and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year! In Christ, Tammy Johnson

Hartsville Interfaith Ministry Food Bank Hartsville Interfaith Ministries (HIM) is an interdenominational, non-profit Christ-centered ministry committed to sharing the love of Christ with those in need in the Hartsville Community. We are collecting items for the food bank at HIM. A list of some of the food items they are in need of are listed below.

Needs: pasta, spaghetti sauce, soup, grits/oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly,

corn muffin mix, canned goods (fruit and beans)

You can pick up a complete list outside of the church office. Thank you for helping with this ministry!

KBC Goal: $20,000

Linda & Walter Johnson join by letter. Bella Bennett joins by baptism. Taylor Smith joins by letter. We thank the Lord for these individuals who have joined our church family.

Overscheduled? Exhausted? Overwhelmed? Beginning January 3 we’ll discover how to stop living at a frenetic pace (hopefully!) and begin charting a new course toward satisfaction, purpose, and significance. In this four week study, pastor Bill Hybels will share his story of why he had to simplify his life and the wake-up call that changed everything for him. Pastor Rod will facilitate this study right after our evening fellowship meal.

Beginning in late January, we’ll explore the Apostles Creed during Sunday night worship. For more than 1,600 years, the Creed has united the church around core Christian doctrines as revealed in Scripture. This historic confession points us to the foundational beliefs of our faith and to the life changing truth of the gospel.

Join us for our Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Service. As part of our worship, you’ll have an opportunity to purchase Bibles from our local Gideons chapter and then give them back to the Gideons for distribution. This is a wonderful tradition we have of supporting the ministry of the Gideons and honoring our Lord as well as we celebrate His birth-day. If you have any questions about the ministry of the Gideons, please see Manly Kelley or Mike Tyner.

Friends and Family, There is a chill in the air. The lights are up. The tree has been decorated and Christmas music is on the radio. Yes, Christmas is underway! This is a time for family and friends and in many ways it is the busiest time of year. Honestly, I find myself so wrapped up in the comings and goings that I forget how the first Christmas got started; through prayer. In Luke 1:13 we read that God heard the prayers of his people and sent John the Baptist to prepare the way for Christ. So, during this season remember to pray. Pray for our students, that this coming year will be a year of deep spiritual growth. Pray that lives will be changed and hearts renewed in our students and in our community. Merry Christmas!
