Research interests include public health, international law and human rights. Specific expertise in developing global health equity policies. Disciplinary focus on civic engagement and engaged scholarship. Most recently he partnered with the US Attorneys’ office and co-authored a study on commercial sexual exploitation of children in Portland that received national attention. He teaches a yearlong first-year seminar on globalization and other courses for around health law, policy, and human rights for the School of Community Health. His current partnerships include the US Attorneys Office, The Department of Human Services, Mercy Corps, and The Oregon Advocacy Commission.

Madrone Wall Preservation Committee, 1997 to present. Board of Directors-Executive Vice-President The Madrone Wall is a unique environmental area overlooking the Clackamas River
southeast of Portland, Oregon. The exposed rock and surrounding shallow rocky soils create unique habitats for a variety of plant and animal species. The area is currently under attack by local governments to turn it into a rock quarry. The MWPC is dedicated to finding a solution to save this precious resource while still providing economic resources for the Clackamas County Road Department.
