Section 1
A key point that is often overlooked:
In ancient times, smoking was not nearly as pervasive in the old world as it was in the Americas.
6
The oldest pipe on record was made of bone and was found on a mummy found in Wyoming that dated to 9000 BC!
But, the first evidence of cannabis smoking/vaporizing was found in western China, where wooden braziers were used to hold hot stones, on which cannabis was burned/vaporized and inhaled out of the air.
This is arguably the first vaporizer, dated to circa 2500 BC!
7
Vaporizing/burning cannabis on hot stones/coals or burning cannabis buds as incense remained popular in the old world for hundreds of years, while Native Americans also used pipes and rolled cigars for both recreational and ritualistic purposes all throughout their history.
The Scythians are an early exception to this rule. These ancient ganja loving people lived in the Middle East, Russia/Eastern Europe. The oldest bong in the world was found among their remains.
It was made of solid gold and dates as far back as 800 BC

9
The Hookah became the first globally recognized water pipe/vaporizer, used to vaporize/burn ‘Shisha’ which is a flavored tobacco product made
for this pipe format. Hashish is sometimes added to the mix.
It was invented in the the early to mid 1500’s in India by an Iranian physician, but there may have been earlier versions in Iran.
The Chillum is a small simple straight pipe with a stone at the center as a filter. It became popular as far back as the 11th century AD in India, were ascetic monks used it to smoke copious amounts of ganja during holy
days. Some argue it actually originated in Africa.
Pipes become more common in the old world after tobacco makes its way to Europe.
From the 17th century forward, all forms of pipes become more common in this area of the world.
Cannabis was first rolled into joints/cigars by Mexican natives and their descendants.

Rice paper-based rolling papers were invented by the Spanish, with the first rolling paper factory developed in Sevilla, Spain in 1703.
Of course many forget that cigar and joint rolling as a whole was invented by Native Americans.
In 2003 Chinese Pharmacist Hon Lik created the modern e-cigarette.
After many earlier iterations launched by a variety of individuals/companies across the globe, his design was the first one to
‘make it’ on the international market.
He was inspired by the death of his father from lung cancer.

Smoking/Vaping: Risks and Benefits Vaping is far more efficient than smoking, and you get the benefit of having decarboxylated cannabis leftover from your sesh to make edibles with.
Vaping cannabis flower or cannabis extracts without harmful cutting agents like vitamin E acetate and glycerin based additives have not been proven to have adverse health effects.
There is no convincing evidence that conclusively links cannabis smoking to cancer, but yes it can contribute to the development of bronchitis. Yes, cannabis produces more tar than cigarettes but cannabis tar residuals are not carcinogenic.
Smoking/vaping taste and feel different. It’s all about personal preference!
Time for a short commercial (smoke) break!
