The most distinguishing features of this attractive bird are the black and white stripes that decorate the wings and the black band that runs across the eyes. The upper body and head feathers of the chukarare brown. The face is white, and the beak is short, strong, and orange in color. There are 14 subspecies of chukar. Partridges live about 12 - 15 years.

Characteristics

The chukar presents great challenges to the hunters. He is a bird who loves remote, rugged. Chukar is also known as gamebird.

Hunters would be allowed to hunt partridges only on Sunday and one hunter would be allowed to collect not more than 6 birds. Hunting will only be permissible on Sundays and gazetted holidays under a valid shooting license. . The maximum bag limit must not exceed eight birds of all partridge species per gun per day and Rs500 will be charged for each bird shot in excess to bag limit besides compensation.
