Putting It in Perspective – June 2019 When our kids were growing up, we took them camping. That’s the way we’d experience vacations. Camping was inexpensive, and by nature, it involved plenty of physical activity. We gathered wood, carried water, hiked the trails, and used our field book to identify flowers and insects. There should be more than one word for camping, since we would often see trailers and recreational vehicles in the state parks, each with its own set of amenities. No, I’m talking about tents! Once each of our boys was old enough, he would receive his own tent, pitched in the same campsite as ours. They would pitch them close enough, yet far enough, from their parents. At night, we would keep a fire going until bedtime, and often wild animals would join us, searching for food. I had a special lantern that I referred to as the “skunk light,” because I would ask a family member to shine its beam on certain black-and-white visitors as I photographed them. We learned that not all skunks look like Pepe LePew from the Warner Brothers cartoons! Each one had its own markings. Our family would wake up on the ground each morning, checking out the tent windows for deer that might be grazing nearby, on our level. Camping was fun and educational. It provided us with new experiences together as a family. Many years ago, the pastor of a church I was attending was saying goodbye. Her appointment to that church was coming to a close; she and her husband were packing to move on. She shared that her experience as a pastor in The United Methodist Church was like camping. When you arrive at a church, you don’t build a permanent structure to live in for the rest of your life. Instead, you pitch a tent, knowing that there is no specific plan for how long you will stay. One day, you’ll need to pull the stakes, roll up the tent, and move on. Janice and I no longer sleep on the ground, but in a similar way, we want to thank you for this camping experience. Like our experiences when the kids were young, there’s been plenty of work! There were also things to learn and relationships to build. Best of all, we have lived within the love of one God. The same God who bound us together before we ever met. The same God whose love we share as we go separate ways. We commend you to Pastor Heidi, the next camper on this site. Let us all remember and cherish what we have gained because we camped together.

Saint Andrew Women
SAW will meet on June 12, 2019 in Fellowship Hall at 1:00 PM. All women of the church are invited to attend. We will have devotions, fun and fellowship. Please join us. This will be the
last meeting until September. A reminder that we can help your caterer with any luncheons
you wish to have at the church. Please contact Rose Marie Bireley at 610-473-0402 to make arrangements. The ladies will set up Fellowship Hall, help your caterer to set up the food,
supply the drinks and desserts. Please remember to save your Redner’s tapes and use your Rewards card in order for us to get credit. Also, we are still collecting the Box Tops for Education. We support the Red
Bird Mission in Kentucky with the box tops.
Saint Andrew Men

Next meeting: Sunday, June 2nd.
Women’s bible study group meets the 1st &

speak to Donna Werkheiser, Tracie Gomolka, or Linda Clancy.
Yarn Spinners Hi Everyone - June 20th will be our last
meeting before our "summer" break. This is our usual "go out to eat" instead of bringing a "bag" lunch to munch on. The time and place is to be decided. We will be in touch with you when decided. See you there.
WANTED: We need gently used medium sized gift bags that may be used for gifting shawls, lap robes and baby blankets. No seasonal or birthday bags please. They
may be given to any Yarn Spinners member. Thank you!
If you or someone you know with ties to St.
Andrew UMC has graduated from high school
or any level of higher education, we would love
to know. Please submit your graduation news
and future plans to the church office by
Monday, May 27th.
The Ambassadors-Seekers adult Sunday
School class that meets in the Library at
9:00a.m. is taking their customary summer
break during June through August.
Class will resume September 8, the Sunday
after Labor Day.
Pat Miller, Henry Ziegler and many friends invite you to
participate on Sept. 8.
Parable (noun) - A simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels. Do you know any? Do you have a favorite? We are studying on the parables of Jesus through the summer. This is a great opportunity for someone to sit in on a few Sundays and learn about a few parables, as you are able, or join us all summer to learn about all of Jesus' parables. Anyone is welcome to join this Sunday school class, as we hear Jesus' own teachings and try to understand what they mean for us today. We meet in the Library at 10:30; bring your coffee, bring a friend and join us!
Youth Choir
The Children's Choir of St Andrew is now the Youth Choir. The youth choir will be singing on Music Sunday June 2nd. We will not meet again until September. We
welcome any and all youth of St Andrew to join us in September. Let's make a joyful noise unto the Lord! If you have any questions contact Bob or Faith Schlegel.
Looking to show off your musical talents this summer? We are looking for
special music to be provided this
summer for the 10:30 service from
June to August.
Please contact Connie Sithens with
interest. 484-686-8103
Sunday, June 2nd @ 10am

A Pot-Luck luncheon will be
held in the Fellowship Hall
immediately following the
service.

Help Raise Money for Our Youth & Children’s Ministry Programs! Fourth of July picnics, summer trips to the shore, vacations, family gatherings, trips to the pool...what do all of these things have in common? You'll need to stop at the Giant grocery store before you go, to get snacks, sunscreen, snacks, drinks, snacks, gas,
whatever...did I mention snacks? Anyway, don't forget to load up on your Cash for Causes cards for all of those trips you'll need to make, so you can pick up all of the essentials for the summer! Not a Cash for Causes participant? Why not? Summer's a great time to join the program! Sign up the 1st & 2nd Sunday of each month in the narthex, at the information table and get your card (usually) the third Sunday of the month. It's easy and benefits our Youth, missions & children's programs here at St. Andrew.
FREE Community Meal Saturday, June 15, 2019, in the Fellowship Hall
at noon. If interested in helping,
Please see Chris Clee or contact the church office.
We need a leader for a new ministry at St. Andrew! Would you
like to take the lead on a “Clothing Closet” ministry here at St.
Andrew? Every year for Community Day, this congregation
graciously brings in bags & boxes of clothing; volunteers work
hard and spend hours unpacking, sorting & hanging the clothes –
then in a few hours, when Community Day is over, it’s all packed back up and
shipped off. What if, instead, we got just a few racks and kept the clothes here,
year-round, for the local folks who come out to our monthly Community Meals, to
be able to take what they need. Maybe we could even put the clothing out by
season. But we need someone willing to take the lead – you would be the person
who would unpack and sort any clothes that come in, hang them and make them
available each month, during the Community Meal. Or, if a need came up in the
community (a family suffers a fire or the bread winner losses a job) we could make
the clothes available. What a great ministry and a great service to the community!
If you would be interested in leading up this ministry or finding out more about it,
please contact the church office or see Phyllis Conroy.

Thank you so much for the many expressions of care and concern (your visits, cards and phone calls) sent my way
during my recent hospitalization. I can't find the words, to adequately describe the warm feeling and comfort that comes from being a member of this family of
believers. Again, thank you.
Hans Scherer
Hello St. Andrew family, We would like to say “Thank you” to all of you for your
Prayers, Cards, Rides, Meals, etc. following Noah’s recent accident. He is finally home. He has a long road ahead, so
please continue to keep him in your prayers as he works with physical therapy to get back on track.
In Christ, Rob Thomas and family
Thank you for the cards, calls, and prayers while I was in the hospital. They meant a Lot to me.
Marion Bartman
Many thanks to Bill Evens for replacing
the medallions and flags in our cemetery.
If anyone notices any flags missing or damaged, please contact Bill or the
church office.
Spring City Veterans: Annual collection of items for the Spring City Veterans will take place from June 2nd through July 7th.
This is a project sponsored by St. Andrew Women. As we celebrate our country's independence, may we NEVER forget the men
and women who have served to keep
our country safer. We now have the opportunity to share with some of them by providing personnel items
that they need. Some of those living at the Veteran's Center have limited
access to purchasing these things or do not have the monetary resources for "extras". When shopping at the
store get some "extra" of the items listed. As you can see these are
ordinary, everyday things that we
take for granted! PLEASE help these men and women who have served
us. There will be a box in the narthex for this collection.
Thank you.
Items Needed: Toothpaste/Individual Toothbrushes.
Tissues (pocket size pkg.) LARGE PRINT Crossword & Word Search Books (available at dollar store) Diabetic Socks (always a big need)
Deodorant, Shaving Cream, Individually Wrapped Bath Soap. AA Batteries. NO Puzzles at this time.
Guatemala update
Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Guatemala Sunday
and the Guatemala luncheon! This mission project would not be possible
without your prayers, financial support, food donations and all those
helping hands in the kitchen. Also thank you to Andrew Tait and Jim
McClure for their expertise in making it possible for us to communicate with
Pastor German, his family, and two of our current students. Everyone's
help was greatly appreciated. On Guatemala Sunday approximately $1000
was collected in support of the children in Guatemala. This included a gift
of $200 from the Ambassadors Sunday school class. Thank you so much
Ambassadors for your ongoing support each year!
We’re having a “Missions Night” and you’re
invited! We will get to hear about some of the
local & global missions St. Andrew UMC
supports. Dr. Zimmerman and his family are
coming for a visit; so mark your calendars
now! St. Andrew will be hosting Dr. Zimmerman
and his family for an evening meal & presentation
on Saturday, July 13th, from 5:30-8:00pm, in the
Social Hall. We’ll share a potluck meal & hear
about the good work the Zimmerman’s are doing
in Nepal. We’ll also have an opportunity to hear a
brief presentation from our youth, regarding what they did on their summer
mission trip this year. It will be a great night to see & hear how we as a church are
taking and sending God’s love and light out both near and far. If your last name
begins with A-N, please bring a main dish; if your last name begins with O-Z,
please bring a side, vegetable, fruit or dessert and join us for this special night.
