This Weekend’s Scripture

First Reading: Acts 5:12-16 The people held the apostles in great esteem and brought sick people to them to be healed. Although some were afraid to be known, the number of Jesus' followers continued to grow steadily.

Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 John depicts a vision of lamp-stands of gold and one like the Son of Man in a robe with a sash of gold. This apparition told John he had nothing to fear and then described himself as one who was dead but now lived again. He then instructed John to record any other vi-sions he might have.

Gospel: John 20:19-31 Jesus appeared to the disciples and breathed on them saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit." He gives them the power to forgive people's sins or hold them accounta-ble. Thomas, who was not present, refused to believe Jesus had appeared until he came to them once more. Jesus told Thomas to believe and added, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

A Stewardship Thought . . .

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’” (John 20:21)

Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out into the world, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and generous. Look for opportunities to share His peace, not only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In giving, we receive the peace of Jesus Christ.

Congratulations to Colin Bolton, Vincent Mandola

and Jeffrey Nelson on the reception of their rank of Eagle Scout.

As a part of their journey, they worked on their Eagle Projects here at OLV.

Colin assisted by organizing a clean up at the Old Calvary Cemetery last Fall.

Vincent organized a team to preform masonry repairs and painting of the retaining wall behind the Parish

Offices and Church last Summer.

Jeffery coordinated the ceiling work, spackling and painting of the parish offices last Summer.

Congratulations and Thank you to each of you, your families and your fellow scouts!

Please remember our students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation

this week.

14th Annual Friendship Meal 2019 was a Great Success!

The Living Stones of OLV served a fabulous meal to a capacity crowd on Saturday, April 13. Lots of deliveries were made to the homebound in the area and many came in for pick ups. The Committee is very grateful for the generous outpouring of donations and numer-ous volunteers from the Parish and beyond who helped. Due to the generosity of so many, God multi-plied our blessings again so that we were able to give the surplus to St. Vincent DePaul Society to continue to give to those in need. We are all very blessed!

News from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed - Proverbs 19:17

A big Thank You to the Knights of Columbus 2061 for their very generous donation of ham dinner boxes so our clients could have a nice Easter meal.

Our food pantry is a busy place. Could you please help us by donating non-perishable food items? This week we mostly need canned or packaged fruit, canned corn, Chef Boyardee type canned pastas, and cereals. Donations can be left in the church lobby after any mass.

Our next general meeting will be May 20th at 7pm in MDH. If you’d like to become involved with helping the poor of our community why not join us?

Our Lord said; “As you have done for the least of my brethren, you have done unto me.” This is the basis for all we do at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We invite you to share in our mission. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance please contact us through the parish office. In the past we’ve helped people with rent, utility, groceries, medicines and many other needs. No work of charity is foreign to our socie-ty. In the name of Christ we are here to help and to serve. Please put us to work. If you or someone you know is truly in need please contact us through the par-ish office. (732) 257-0077

2019 Bishop’s Annual Appeal Help Build a Civilization of Love

On Divine Mercy Sunday we turn to our faith in God who is ready to embrace us and forgive us for all our wrongdoings. In exchange for our humanity God offers His divinity and even though we have sinned against God He never forgets that what He made is good and always shows mercy.

Mercy is a sign of a strong church. We need to be merciful and we need mercy upon us to carry out the mission of the Church to make the Risen Lord’s Way, Truth, and Life known. With a few weeks remaining in the Bishop’s Annual Appeal we have reached 77.29% of our parish goal of $91,000.00 and together we can reach our full potential in the upcoming weeks. The ministries that the Bishop’s Annual Appeal funds pro-vides us the opportunity to attend to our people, serve our Church, and makes the priorities of the Gospel known.

All the funds raised through the Bishop’s Annual Ap-peal go towards the ministries and programs outlined in the appeal brochure.

Thank you to all who have given so generously to the 2019 Bishop’s Annual Appeal. If you have not made a pledge, there is still time to participate. Mail your gift

to: Diocese of Metuchen, Bishop’s Annual Appeal, PO Box 4000, Metuchen, NJ 08840-4000 or give online at

www.diometuchen.org/BAA.

OLV Senior Group May Meeting Friday, May 3, 2019 at 1:00PM

in Monsignor Dalton Hall.

Prior to our business meeting, we will have our annual May Crowning. Cof-fee and cake will be served after the business meeting. Non-perishable

food donations for St. Vincent de Paul will be accepted at all meetings. For further information

contact Teri at 732-727-7639.

The Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday was granted to the Universal Church by Pope St. John Paul II on the occasion of the canonization of Sr. Faustina on April 30, 2000. It is celebrated the Sunday following Easter.
