Not “What are you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for possessions or aspirations for life, it’s “Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to be ready to give an answer to this question. Truth be told, few of us spend much time thinking about why we hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers. We hope because Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with us always. No matter what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to do, we must always ϐirst know and proclaim the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us through the power of the Spirit. Dear Parishioners,

I admire your patience during this time of pandemic. Many of you are keeping

socially distant and wearing masks and staying at home unless absolutely necessary.

This time since March 20th, when the churches of our diocese were closed, has been

painful for all of us. It is a tribute to your faith and devotion to hear from so many that they miss

holy communion and being able to be together at mass.

Many, also, have let us know how dear their parish church is to them. The ability to “stop

in for a visit” before the tabernacle is a gift so many relish and all of us pray that we can return

to normal as soon as prudence allows.

Our bishop has assembled a task force to begin a step by step schedule of re-opening

our parish churches and as soon as the pastors are notified, I will send the word out.

For now, I will close with renewed gratitude for your generosity to the parish in the

Sunday envelopes and electronic giving.

I also want to acknowledge the generosity of the Franciscan Brothers for their gift to our

parishes’ St. Vincent de Paul Account. They and others have provided funds to assist people in

emergency situations during the pandemic.

We also have reached more than the half-way mark in the Annual Catholic Appeal. I am

thrilled with these signs of the goodness of our parishioners. Thank you.

Let’s pray for each other

Msgr. Kevin B. Noone

Pope Francis’ Coronavirus Prayer

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey

as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the Cross were near to the pain of Jesus,

keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People,

know what we need, and trust that you will provide for those needs so that, as at Cana of Galilee,

joy and celebration may return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us,

He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and took up our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross,

to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection,

O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test –

and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
