Amos describes in detail the exploitation of the poor and needy. The psalm repeats that God acts to beneϐit the poor and lowly. But Luke turns things upside down, telling a tale of a conϐlicted steward, about to be ϐired, who demonstrates his cleverness and is rewarded. Like the communitytowhom Paul writes in Timothy, these readings are personal, directed to believers, members of the Jewish and Christian communities, who struggle to deal with personal choices about how to conduct their lives. They offer an outline for how God wishes us to live in a world as complicated and as confusingas our own. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear Parishioners,

Summer is officially over and we begin another autumn. Some of us have more energy

as the weather cools down and it’s usually the time when most parish groups and programs

get back into full swing.

We had the opening of the school year mass on Friday, September 13, and we opened

our Religious Education Program last Sunday. We have new catechists as well as seasoned

ones and I am very grateful for everyone’s dedication.

Speaking of dedication, I want to thank Richard Montgomery and Mary Louise and

Richard Martelli who have been ushers at the Saturday vigil mass for well over thirty years.

They are going into retirement from being ushers but, if present, will be happy to assist with

the collections.

Their dedication was similar to the postmen of old - neither snow, rain or hail kept

them from their posts. In your name and for my part, I want to thank them for their years of

service and dependability.

So, if you are at the 5:00pm mass, the celebrant may have to ask you to pass the

basket.

Please pray for good weather for this coming Friday, so our golfers can enjoy their

game. The Rhapsody Players promise to offer us a pleasant evening of entertainment on

Saturday, October 5th in our gym and “Why Catholic” will resume their weekly meetings

next week.

If you are doing any checking up on your closets and drawers, please know that the St.

Vincent de Paul truck will accept clean usable clothing on Sunday, October 27, from

9:00am through 12:00pm. You have always been very generous.

October 6th will be “Right to Life Sunday”. In the past, members of the Life Center of

New York have been present to hand out baby bottles for loose change and any other

financial donations. They find themselves short of volunteers at present so I will ask the

Candidates for Confirmation to assist in this

worthy cause.

As you can see, summer is over.

Let’s pray for each other,

Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
