Fifth Sunday of Easter w May 10th, 2020Acts 6:1-7 w 1 Peter 2:4-9 w John 14:1-12
On Wednesday morning, March 11th, I had written to our adult choir, discussing the previous Sunday, mapping out that evening’s rehearsal, and sharing a few plans for Holy Week. To that point, our Holy Week repertoire had been selected and studied, rehearsal materials prepared, instrumentalists con-tracted, arrangements composed, and worship aids created. Things were moving along but, in my note to the choir, I urged everyone to continue using their best judgment in attending re-hearsals and Sunday mass, saying: “We'll continue on as sched-uled but if anything changes, I'll let you know.” We met for rehearsal that night but, by the end of the week, Boston Col-lege was closed, the Archdiocese had suspended publicly-cele-brated masses, sporting events worldwide were canceled, travel was restricted, and, without realizing it, our choir had met for the last time this spring.
In shock, and without fully appre-ciating the speed and scope of the changes, my initial feelings were of sadness and loss: for our communi-ty of musicians, for the liturgies that would not be celebrated, and the music that would not be heard. And I was faced with the temptation to retreat into the comfort of nostalgia and of the familiar. But as I worked to reimagine plans in our new virtual reality, with all its challenges and limitations, my feelings of mourning for a “lost” Holy Week gave way. I began to see the Triduum and the parish in a new light.
Embracing this unique situation as an opportunity to grow, unleashed an outpouring of creativity. With the immensely tal-ented Allyn McCourt, to whom I am indebted, we set about making something new, wanting to offer people the shared ex-perience of the unfamiliar while being physically apart.
I am very proud of what we achieved: a virtual Triduum, channeling the anxieties and sadness of the pandemic into a living celebration of the resurrection. It was a richly rewarding experience and an honor to share it with, truly, the world (as well as my parents in St. Louis!).
As we continue through the Easter season, I’m faced with a similar task: reimaging and condensing the wide-ranging and eclectic music of our parish into two weekly masses: one in English and one in Spanish. And, as with Holy Week, I’m find-ing the challenge incredibly rewarding. In opening my heart, I’ve come to hear and appreciate our music in new ways: music of different cultures, languages, styles, time periods, and mu-sic both new to and part of the shared history of St. Ignatius Parish. It speaks to our diversity and vitality as a parish and church that we so openly embrace different music. And recall that while, at times, a song may seem strange and unfamiliar

Church At Home†
IntentionWe recognize that these are difficult and uncertain times, and we miss the gift of
gathering as a faith community at St. Ignatius Parish. But we take Consolation in that “God is in all things,” including in our homes, from the dirty dishes in the sink to the
fancy plates in the cupboard, God is with us!
Sacred SpaceWe join a long history of worship and reverence that takes place within the
home. Consider the holiness of the manger as the place where Jesus entered the world or recall the long history of the Mexican “ofrenda” - a home altar to
commemorate ancestors...Take a moment to select and create a sacred space within
your home. This can be as simple as a windowsill or corner of a kitchen table. Remember, Jesus saying, “For my yoke is
easy and my burden is light.”
LiturgyAs the time for Mass draws near, take time
to prepare your sacred space and livestreaming device.
Consider printing the readings or worship aid. To save paper you might
follow along on a smart phone, ipad or tablet.
As Mass begins, don’t be afraid to sing aloud and reverently sit, kneel or stand
as you are able. Let the word of God enter into your Home!
ConnectionKnow of our prayers for you and your family!Remember that Christ connects in many ways
through hope, faith and love.
GratitudeIt is a with a full heart that we give thanks for all the gifts in our lives including the gift of our homes, our
church, and our community and so many more.

During this difficult time, we are all trying to cultivate resilience and hope in our own creative ways. We are reminded in May (Mental Health Awareness Month) that we are not alone in this
venture and we all deserve and need support to foster continued well-being. During this month we will be continually updating our wellness and emotional support
resources and sharing new self-care tools. To honor this month of awareness, we invite you to read the following article by Brother Ken Homan, S.J., about the importance of therapeutic
resources that are also available to the community: https://bit.ly/2YLyEE1. Let us know if we can help you to connect to available services.

Outreach MinistriesPROJECT BREAD WALK FOR HUNGER: Project Bread’s commit-ment to families and elders facing food insecurity is ongoing and you are invited to help with its rapid response to the COVID-19 crisis. Please consider donating online by going to projectbread.org and selecting Walk for Hunger. It’s not too late to support TEAM IGNATIUS or a TEAM “walker.” To date, TEAM IGNATIUS has raised $10,518.00! Every single donation counts, no matter the amount!
Elizabeth, Michelle and Tim Barrett designed their own 20 mile route last Sunday: “It took us over 7 hours and 60 times around our neighbor-hood - saw lots of neighbors - but we are done. Missed the crowds but
nice to see so many neighbors. My mom and brother joined for a few laps as did our dog. We hope and pray that the Walk meets and exceeds its fundraising goal and glad to be part of Team
Ignatius another year.” Thanks, Barretts!
CRS RICE BOWL 2020 RETURNS
There are two options for returning your Rice Bowl collection: you can make an online donation by going to the CRS/Rice Bowl website or you can send a check for your collected amount to St. Ignatius, with Rice Bowl on the memo line, and it will be forwarded to CRS. We know CRS will be greatly impacted by the health crisis, so what-
ever we can do for its mission will, without a doubt, be greatly appreciated.
Loving and Gracious God,Today and always we pray in gratitude for our mothers,
And for all women who serve as role models and caregivers.
Bring them joy through their children as they grow,Give them courage when facing unfamiliar situations,
Grant them patience and strength in difficult and challenging times,
Provide them with the wisdom to not only love, but to accept love in return.
Bless them with the supports they need to care for their families,And give them the hope to sustain and fulfill their faith, so they may turn to you for
help when they seek your guidance. Amen.
