Dear Friends in Christ, It has come to my attention, that many do not bother to

read the Bulletin. It is unfortunate because this is the most reliable place to learn about what is really happening at Saint Rocco. It also corrects the rumors and falsehoods that spread when one mixes ignorance and fear. So, let’s set a few things straight.

Life means Change: When one is happy, one wants every-thing to stay the same. It never does, not for very long. The surest route to unhappiness is to seek permanence in this transi-tory life. Our faith advises us to be thankful for the good things we receive as we enjoy them, and then also, to be at peace when they are gone.

St. Teresa of Avila summed up these sentiments in a beauti-ful prayer:

Let nothing disturb you, Let nothing frighten you, All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices. Changes at Saint Rocco: We have undergone significant

changes in Glen Cove this last year. With the arrival of new pastors, new priests, births and death, comings and goings, changes in administration in the school, Msgr. Vaccari’s depar-ture, Fr Bruno’s unexpected leave of absence, and so on.

When Father Aaron was here, there were things people liked and disliked. Things at which he excelled, and other things at which he was less skillful. That same is true to-day. There are things people like or dislike about me and my way of being the pastor. That’s life. It’s understand-able.

With the first full week of school starting the week of September 9th, there will be more changes, mostly matters of organization, to insure sound pastoral care of the parish and the school. In the coming weeks I will elaborate some of these improvements after I have consulted with the pastoral council on Monday, September 10th.

Our Parishes: Saint Rocco and Saint Patrick exist as two separate parishes, but whose lives and futures are inextricably tied together. This bond takes on flesh in the clergy who care for both of these parishes. Although Father Daniel and I have our respective offices as pastors, we do not consider the other parish to be any less important to our priestly service. Coopera-tion and collaboration is the way forward. If we do not learn to work together, the future will be bleak. Rather than grumble and murmur nostalgically about the past – and let’s be honest, it wasn’t carefree and without difficulties -– we have the opportunity to build something that will last and insure the future of both parishes. In the months to come, we will be undertaking initiatives to work together.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2012: TWENTY - THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Niente ti turbi, niente ti spaventi. Tutto passa, Dio non cambia. La pazienza ottiene tutto. Chi ha Dio ha tutto. Dio solo basta. Cambiamenti a San Rocco: abbiamo avuto significativi

cambiamenti a Glen Cove nell'ultimo anno.

Let us pray for the intentions of our Holy Father

during the month of September…..

General Intention: Politicians. That politicians may always act with honesty, integrity, and love for the truth. Missionary Intention: Help for the Poorest Churches. That Christian communities may have a growing willing-ness to send missionaries, priests, and lay people, along with concrete resources, to the poorest Churches.

Saturday: 3:00pm — 3:45pm

The regular collection on 9/2/2012 was $3,272.00. The second collection for school support was $939.00. May God bless you for your continued support and generosity. Thank you, Fr. Elias

BULLETIN REFLECTION The good steward must not show favoritism. The rich may have many material gifts to share, but St. James reminds us in the 2nd reading that God has chosen the world’s poor to be rich in faith and inheri-tors of God’s kingdom.

LIVING STEWARDSHIP We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who show Christ’s compassion and mercy by supporting and ministering in homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
