THE CARES ACT As you may know, the CARES Act was passed on March 27th, 2020. This law incentivizes charitable
giving from individuals and corporations by increasing tax deductions for charitable donations. Specifically for individual donors, when filing for 2020 next year, all taxpayers can deduct $300 in charitable giving to public nonprofits in 2020. Prior to the CARES Act, those who used the
standard deduction could not deduct any charitable giving. This news comes from the
Cardinal's Appeal Office, and we are happy to pass this information along to our parishioners.
Prayer to the Virgin Mary for Protection In this time of COVID-19 Danger
O Blessed Mother Mary, you shine light on our journey through the dark valleys of worry as a beacon of confidence and a companion
of hope for your children in the Church. We trust that you will provide for us
in our time of urgent need, as you did for the bride and groom at Cana in Galilee.
Help us, Holy Mother of Divine Love. We entrust ourselves to you, who at the
foot of the Cross participated in Jesus’ pain. May your Son, who took our sufferings upon
Himself, and bore the weight of our sins, bring us through his Cross to share with the saints
the joy of His Resurrection.
ORDINATION WILL HAPPEN IN GOD’S GOOD TIME
We were all looking forward to the Ordination to
the Diaconate of our parishioner Dr. Jonathan Reyes
in St. Patrick's Cathedral on June 13. But like many
things that have been disrupted by the coronavirus
pandemic, that great event for him and our parish
will be delayed until the Fall. As you may know,
deacons assist bishops or priests at Mass. They can
perform baptisms, witness weddings, and lead the
prayers at wakes and burials. To learn more about
the first deacons of the Church, who were ordained
for service by the Apostles, open your Bible to the
Acts of the Apostles and read chapters 6 and 7.
St. Teresa’s Bereavement Group St. Teresa’s Bereavement Group will be meeting every Saturday morning at 10:45 via the Conference Call Sys-tem until they can resume scheduled meetings in the Parish House. This is the phone # for participants to call in at 10:45am on Saturday mornings - 978-990-5027. The access code is 455962# as some may want to refer to it in the weeks to come. Contact Deacon Novella Lawrence at 347-581-1082 if you have any questions. A call before is requested to make first-time visitors comfortable.
. Just as many families need a paycheck each week, your parish family counts on our Sunday collection to pay our expenses. Many thanks to those who have mailed or delivered their contributions. I hope many will help us make up for the baskets that will be emp-ty for weeks. But please also think about using this crisis to make your Sunday contributing easier and more dependable. You can do this by joining others who use WeShare. On a computer follow these sim-ple steps: 1. Go to our parish website: www.saintteresasi.org. 2. Scroll down to a cute little church and see “Give Online.” 3. Go to Primary Church Collection and then Recurring Church Collec-tion. 4. Think about a percentage of your income, and enter the amount you want to give. Money can be deducted safely from bank accounts and credit cards, under your control and as you see fit. Many people do this already. I think that having more people join us in this practice is important for our parish’s future.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE SOMEONE WHO CAN LISTEN?
Everyone goes through crises sometimes. When that is happening, we can benefit from a conversation
with a professional counselor who shares our Catholic perspective.
Our parish can make a connection for you with the
Archdiocese of New York's PARISH COUNSELING NETWORK.
Our parishioners can make an appointment to meet with a professional counselor on Staten Island or any-place in the Archdiocese, for up to six meetings, with
only a $10 co-pay per session. This can be arranged easily. Tell one of our priests that you want to talk with a counselor. He will contact the PARISH COUNSELING NETWORK on your
behalf, and then you can call and arrange your first visit with someone who can listen to you.
