Both the first reading, from the book of Wisdom, and the Gospel passage from Mark assure us that God did not make death or even will us to be ill. Illness and death en- tered the world through the presence of evil, the Wis- dom author tells us. Mark’s stories of Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman and resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear that Jesus is from God. As the Son of God he does not will that anyone suffer illness or death. In the face of such power, the second reading, from Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians, pro- vides a stark contrast. Jesus, who could raise the dead to new life, “though he was rich, for your sake he became poor” (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of new life from Christ demands our response in charity. From the Pastor’s Desk Dear Parishioners, This Sunday evening please join together with Bishop Donald Kettler in prayer and adoration for the intention of defending life, marriage, and religious liberty. The Fortnight for Freedom Holy Hour will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Mary in Saint Cloud, from 4 to 5 pm. I plan to attend the Holy Hour. If you are unable to join us, please keep the intentions in your prayers. We pray that this Fortnight for Freedom leads to an increasing respect for and appreciation of religious freedom to bear wit-ness to the Gospel. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has released these quotes from Pope Francis regarding religious freedom… “What does freedom mean? It is certainly not doing whatever you want, allowing yourself to be dominated by the passions, to pass from one experience to another without discernment, to follow the fashions of the day; freedom does not mean, so to speak, throwing everything that you don’t like out the win-dow…Let us not be afraid of life commitments, commitments that take up and concern our entire life! In this way our life will be fruitful! And this freedom: to have courage to make deci-sions with generosity. May 4, 2013 “When in the name of ideology, there is an attempt to remove God from society, it ends up adoring idols, and very soon men and women lose their way, their dignity is trampled and their rights violated.” Sept. 23, 2014 Marriage and the family are in crisis today. We now live in a culture of the temporary, in which more and more people reject marriage as a public obligation. This revolution of customs and morals has often waved ‘the flag of freedom’, but it has, in real-ity, brought spiritual and material devastation to countless hu-man beings, especially the poorest and most vulnerable.” Nov.17, 2014 “I cannot fail to recall the many instances of injustice and per-secution which daily afflict religious minorities and Christians in particular, in various parts of our world. Communities and individuals today find themselves subjected to barbaric acts of violence: they are evicted from their homes and native lands, sold as slaves, killed, beheaded, crucified or burned alive, under the shameful and complicit silence of so many.” Nov.25, 2014 In Christ, Fr. Don Wagner

Prayer for the United States of America: O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burdens of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of fam-ily life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God's law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the TRUE Source of our cherished right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Amen. Men of the Sacred Hearts.
