Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Information about Godparents is available on the website.

Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.

Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

Some People Might be

Wondering….

Why are there so few decorations in all areas of the Church during Advent? “Advent is a time of anticipation and waiting for the Christmas dawn. In early Advent, we streamline the environment, removing most plants, all flowers and other decorations in the Church, the Gathering Space and around the statues.” Our modest decorations include simple deep blue-violet banners to accent the season. We have come to recognize the Advent wreath as another visible sign of our four week Advent Journey. The Advent wreath will be placed in the Gathering Space, “close to the spot where you will eventually find the Christmas Creche. In this way, the Advent wreath will not take a place of dominance nor compete with the view of the altar.” In our comings and goings, we will be reminded of our joyful anticipation of the birth of Christ anew! First Reading: As Advent commences, we hear Isaiah, the mystic prophet of Israel. In an extended discourse, he speaks hopefully of the long anticipated new Davidic dynasty that has yet to be realized. This hoped-for Messiah will be the salvation of all Israel.

Responsorial Psalm 25: The psalm reminds us of the intimate connection between God and his people. God is available as teacher, guide and savior, pointing the way for all who humbly seek His ways. Although these verses are optimistic as a whole, Psalm 25 is a lament. This section affirms God’s forgiveness of sinners.

Second Reading: Paul’s powerful letter to the community at Thessalonica concludes with prayer and gratitude. His hope for the followers of Jesus is that they grow in love and persevere in right conduct as they continue to follow the Lord. Paul notes that he speaks not from his own authority; his instructions to them come “through the Lord Jesus.”

Gospel: Jesus speaks to his disciples about the cosmic occurrences at the time of the coming of the Son of Man. While others might be crushed with fear by the devastating reality of the end of the world, the followers of Jesus can stand with their heads held high, anticipating redemption. To be prepared for such a moment requires vigilance, however. They are called to watch and to pray, a foreshadowing of the instructions Jesus will give them in the Garden of Gethsemane as He faces the chaos and suffering of death on the Cross.

Bulletin Reflection “Be on guard,” Jesus warns in today’s Gospel, “lest your spirits become bloated with indulgence.” Let us heed His warning and follow the advice of St. Paul, conducting ourselves in a way pleasing to God, overflowing with love for one another.

Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who embrace Stewardship by recognizing God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all they have and all they are.
