BIBLE STUDY: THE PSALMS Our parish Bible study meets on Tuesdays at 7:30pm in the parish hall at St. Joachim. We’ll meet each Tuesday to read, study and reflect upon the Psalms. These prayer-poems of ancient Israel have played a central role in Christian life and prayer from the very beginning – Jesus Himself prayed the psalms on a daily basis. Come and see for yourself the tremendous richness of this book of Scripture. All are welcome at any time – there’s no need to attend all the sessions. Please bring a bible. Bibles are available at the parish office for $5. Please see the items below for upcoming parish activities you will want to participate in. Christmas Lottery Party (Dec. 2) Christmas Fair (Dec. 2 & 3) Tree of Lights for Christmas (Dec. 2 & 3) Christmas Pageant (Dec. 17) Revenue Sharing Program Information on our Parish Christmas Fair will be forthcoming.

First Friday First Friday devotions among Catholics are related to devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. First Friday practices date to the last decade of the 17th century, when Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary, and specifically referenced practices for First Fridays: In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who receive Communion on the First Friday of the month, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the Sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour. Please join us on Friday, December 1st, after the 8 am Mass at St. John’s Church and spend some time with Jesus in adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. First Friday Devotion is held every first Friday, so please continue to join us every month – The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed after the 8 am Mass until 7:00 pm. Jesus will certainly appreciate your time and your company. Thank you.

To serve your needs better, our pastor would like to know;

- Of any parishioner who is hospitalized - Of anyone in need of prayer - Of anyone who would like a pastoral visit Our parish priests and the Special Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to our ill parishioners. The Sacraments of the Sick and Reconciliation are also available from our priests on their visits. If you or someone you know is in need of the Sacraments, please call the parish office. Through the Outreach Program – Parish Volunteers provide supportive and practical services for seniors and other persons who are in need. These include friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, shopping, and local medical transportation/escort. Drivers are needed for the Outreach Program for doctor’s appointments. Reflection by Deacon Marty

Here it is already, the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year. Next Sunday, we begin Advent. But back to today, last week I spent my annual retreat at Mt. Saviour Monastery, in Pine City, NY. Mt. Saviour is indeed God’s country. Mountainous, cold, barren land were only sheep pasture, along with the monks who live there and take care of them. Indeed, we hear Jesus say, “I know my sheep and they know me”. In the fields along with the sheep is a Llama and two donkeys to protect the sheep. The Llama is there to keep an eye on the sheep and watch for predators such as coyotes, fox, wolves, and any other animal or human that may harm the sheep. In their own way, the llama communicates with the donkeys, who then warn the monks that something is wrong. The sheep, indeed, know the monks who take care of them, and the monks know them. The perfect place to pray in solitude, reflecting and watching over the flock just as Jesus does. Over 2,500 years ago, Ezekiel prophesied: “As for you, my sheep, says the Lord God, I will judge between one sheep and another, between rams and goats” (Ez 34:17). Jesus announced that this prophesy would be ultimately fulfilled at the end of the world when He comes again as King of kings to judge the living and the dead (Mt 25:34). We must learn to recognize Christ when he comes to meet us in our brothers and sisters, the people around us. None of us are isolated, we are bound up together with other lives here on earth. A few years before he was killed in New York City, John Lennon came out with a song called “Imagine.” For those of us who grew up with the Beatles, “Imagine’s” simple melody and lyrics still resonate deeply within us. It is a song that invites it’s listeners to imagine a different world, a better world. And that is what we are called to do on this feast of Christ the King – imagine a better world.

Christmas Giving Tree 2017 “For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matthew 25:35). In the church, beginning December 1, 2017 you will notice a Christmas tree with tags on it, this is a giving tree and it is being sponsored by St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Pre- Confirmation class. Our students are learning that our Church (us) primarily exists for all. Our task is to show how we represent our God. For Christ Jesus challenges us to take OUR CHURCH beyond its doors, into the light of day and the darkness of night. We, at St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist share our belief with all. By living our faith we have set an example for our youth and all within our community. This will be the fourth year, we as a parish helped to make Christmas a true expression of God’s love. With your assistance, we will continue to share our blessings with those who are faced with challenges due to health, age, income, or just simply being alone. The giving tree will again benefit unwed mother and veterans within our community. If you choose to participate in this activity, sponsored by our pre- confirmation class, you may then return the purchased gift to the church unwrapped with the tag attached to it. All gifts must be returned no later than Monday, December 18, 2017. On the back of the tags there is an item printed on it, we are asking that you take a tag and purchase the item. These gifts will once again benefit unwed mothers and veterans within our community. On behalf of the pre confirmation class, we thank you in advance for your support of this very much needed service. Many are familiar that the holidays can be a very difficult and lonesome time of year. Many of us are blessed to have the support and love of our families. During this Advent season let us keep in mind those who are less fortunate whether by obtaining a gift or by saying a simple prayer. God bless you, Albert

LECTURAS 1ª Lectura: Prov 31, 10-13. 19-20. 30-31

2ª Lectura: 1 Tes 5, 1-6/Evangelio: Mt 25, 14-30

(Benedicto XVI). Por: P.
