Family Perspective: Jesus is saying to you what he said to Zacchaeus, “I must stay at your house today.” It doesn’t matter if in today’s gospel Jesus “intended to pass through Jericho to another town.” In families we sometimes stop at the wrong places. It is wisdom to “pass through” annoying family situations

so we can enjoy the goodness of each other.

Marriage Moments: Oct. 31 is Halloween in which our culture celebrates spirits - both scary and beautiful. Nov. 1 is All Saints Day on which we remember the Godly humans who came before

us. Who inspires you to goodness?

Families Always Matter: Please visit the Families Always Matter website, www.eriercd.org/fam.htm, and get all the details about the 1st Annual Family Fest coming up on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Ambassador Conference Center in Erie. Round up the family and plan to be there. GO FAMILIES!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In recent weeks Hurricane Matthew and

other storms have devastated significant

portions of the southeastern United States

and the Caribbean, especially Haiti. While

many have begun to assist, we realize that

the road to restoration will be long, and

additional support will be needed.

To help with this process of recovery, the U.S.

Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for a special

collection, which will be taken up in our parishes on the

weekend of November 5-6. These funds will be used to

support the efforts of Catholic Relief Services and Catholic

Charities USA, as they reach out to provide humanitarian aid;

help in restoring communities that have suffered widespread

destruction; and assist in the repair and reconstruction of

Catholic churches and institutions.

As always, I am grateful for the generosity shown by the

people of the Diocese of Erie. You and your families remain

in my prayer.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

+ Lawrence T. Persico

The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, JCL

Bishop of Erie

For Next Week

Questions for the week: So, here we are—living on earth. Here is where faith and hope and charity guide us until the evening of life, when we lay down the tools we no longer need. And we set aside faith and hope, too. We don’t need those either, for we will see face to face. All we will need is charity. That’s life. And it accounts for eternity. Saint Teresa of Avila once said, “All the way to heaven is heaven, because he said, ‘I am the Way.’ “ How is this true in your life? Saint John of the Cross said, “In the evening of life we will be judged on love.” What do you think about this statement? In the Alternate Opening Prayer for this Mass, we ask God to “enfold our desire with the beauty of truth.” Think of what you really want. How

does it relate to the “beauty of truth?” In other words, are God’s will and your will the same?
