From the pastor… Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – In today’s first read-ing (1 Kings 19:4-8) Elijah said “This is enough oh Lord and he prayed for death.” Following the instructions of the Lord, Elijah got up and ate. The food of the Lord gave him the strength to finish his journey. In today’s Gospel (John 6:41-51) Jesus declares “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” What a gift the Eucharist really is! “This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one my eat it and not die.” In addition to the Lord’s Day Mass; if possible, consider attending daily Mass – at 9 a.m. on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and the First Saturday of each month. There is also a 6 p.m. Mass on Wednesday eve-nings, which you may find more convenient. Daily Mass is shorter, with a lot less distractions, and yet you receive that same heavenly food to strengthen you for your journey. You’ll find this, the finest daily prayer, a big help. Next weekend is the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings at Mass will be taken from Proverbs 9:1-6; Ephe-sians 5: 15-20; John 6:51-58. Come prepared. EAST COAST WINGS is the location of our next “Forward With Christ” restaurant fundraiser. This restaurant is located on Broad Street and in the Bi-Lo Supermarket shopping center. This Tuesday, August 14th, from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., East Coast Wings will generously donate 10% of your purchase to our building campaign. Please tell them that you are from St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church. Hope to see you there!

In the Home Stretch for the fir st Phase of our Forward With Christ Building campaign. Our Goal is $2,500,000. With last weekends’ collection, which includes a $10,000 contribution, we now have $2,406,295.00 in the bank. That really is quite good, considering, we began about a year and a half ago and during that time we were unable to have an official Capital Campaign. We are working with the Architect and General Contractor to come up with the final plans and then present them to the Diocese for their final approval. We will be present-ing a more detailed update on our building progress in the near future. Please be generous and help us reach our goal. Wednesday is August 15th and the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. There will not be a Vigil Mass on Tuesday, since we always have a 6 p.m. Mass on Wednesdays. Therefore, there will be a 9 a.m. & 6 p.m. Mass this Wednesday. Hope to see you in Church. The Planning and Building Committee will meet this Wednesday, August 15th at 6:45 p.m., following the 6 p.m. Mass. The Finance Council will meet this Thursday, August 16th at 6:30 p.m.. RCIA – This program is for adults who are 18 years or older. It is for people who are possibly interested in becoming Catholic or for those who have been baptized Catholic but never received your first Holy Communion or Confirmation. on September 5th we will begin meeting on most Wednesday evenings from 6:45 – 8:15 p.m.. The participants who make this commitment and then if they decide that they would like to be members of the Catholic Church, they will be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening, March 26th. If you or someone you know may be interested in the Catholic Church, please call me (Fr. Kessler) at the rectory- 704-681-4860 or the office - 704-872-2579. You may also call Raquel Swier-czewski at 704-880-7940.
