Seventh Sunday of Easter June 2, 2019

FOCUS: Christ calls us to unity with him and the Father.

Jesus prays for his Church to be one, to be a visible sign of Christ to the world. In his great love, Jesus invites us into his own relationship with God the Father: I in them and you in me. God’s powerful love enables believers to live in a unity so attractive it draws others into the love of God.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Stephen sees a heavenly vision before he is thrown out of the city and stoned by the crowd. In Revela-tion, John reveals Jesus’ testimony as the Alpha and the Omega, and his invitation to receive the gift of life-giving water. In the Gospel from John, Jesus prays for his disciples and those who will follow, asking his Father to perfect them in unity.

REFLECTION: Would any of us consider our-selves spokespersons for our faith? Stephen got in trouble for speaking about the things he believed. He was an EVANGELIST. There... A word we Catholics don’t often use! We almost never hear it uttered in main line churches. Yet, it is not just the mission of some paid clergy and full-time lay minis-ters in our parish. It is our task, our vocational call since our baptism.

So we ask ourselves:

• Do I avoid conversations that might require me to speak of my faith?

• When was the last time I shared my faith – in a public or private way?

Invocation to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;

be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and you, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,

by the power of God, cast down to hell Satan

and the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
