Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s Gospel features Jesus calling his first disci-
ples. The invitation is welcoming and intriguing:
“Come, and you will see.” How are we called by the
Lord? The Lord has called us all here today on this
Sunday in the middle of January and so we have come
together to listen to God’s word and to receive our
Lord in the Eucharist.
How is the Lord speaking to us today?

trigante: “Vengan a ver”.

Psalm 40
1 Corinthians 6:13c-15a, 17-20
John 1:35-42
Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word
God calls Samuel in the middle of the night in today’s
first reading. Samuel is confused, but eventually he
responds, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” John’s
disciples are listening when he points to Jesus and says,
“Behold, the Lamb of God.” They follow Jesus at
once. Let us listen to God’s word, ponder how we our-
selves are called, and recommit ourselves to following
the Lord.

Juan 1:35-42

RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION
The safety of all is our utmost concern. Because of
this, we are not tired of reminding everyone to observe
the safety guidelines. We strongly ask everyone to
receive Holy Communion in the hand and must leave
their mask on when approaching the priest; after re-
ceiving the Sacred Host, move to the side, lower the
mask and consume the Sacred Host, then put back the
mask and return to your seat.
asiento.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
For Reflection . . .
Hearing the story of Samuel’s call, perhaps you’re
marveling that he could keep getting back to sleep af-
ter being awakened multiple times during the night.
That’s the true miracle! But it may be good to think of
“sleep” as a metaphor for days lived routinely, without
thinking. Every day we wake up, brush our teeth and
comb our hair, go to work or school, come home,
watch TV, go to bed. Day after day after day. Perhaps
once in a while during our drowsiness we receive a
gentle nudge: Is there more to my life? Shouldn’t I be
doing something more? The Lord’s call may not occur
during the night, but we may still be sleeping when it
happens. Will it wake us up?
How can I discern the Lord’s call among the many
voices in my life? Is there any intermediary I can trust
to recognize the Lord’s voice?

Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
Para Reflexionar . . .
