December 24, 2017Fourth Sunday of Advent (B)
2 Sm 7:1–5, 8b–12, 14a, 16 Rom 16:25–27, Lk 1:26–38
King David wants to build God a home! He had firstbuilt his own palace and afterward realized that hehadnʼt built a space for God—a place of worship andfamily communion.
It is admirable that David wants to give back, but dowe have to take care of God or, rather, is it God whocares for us? Obviously, God doesnʼt need David tobuild him a house. The whole world is his. Didnʼt Godbuild up David all along, bringing him to a placewhere he might consider offering God something inreturn? It is like children who want to give their par-ents a gift. First they ask a parent for money or a giftidea. On their own, they cannot give.
God turns the tables on David, saying that God willbuild David a house—an everlasting lineage to ruleover the people. God will build something much big-ger than anything David had ever dreamt of. He willbuild David a kingdom that will become a nation andgive birth to a worldwide universal Church.
In the painting, Mary stands in front of an ornatehouse. She stands like us, at the entrance, welcom-ing Godʼs coming. It was her yes that allowed themaster builder to enter into our world to begin build-ing this house, which became a Church.
Like Mary, we await Jesus. With her, let us say yesto him, celebrating the one who has established thathouse where we celebrate today!
—Fr. Mark Haydu, LC

I have called you by name, you are mine” Isaiah 43:1
Is God calling you? Do you want to learn more about the Catholic Faith? Are you interested in becoming part of our Catholic family?
The RCIA Process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process by which those interested in becoming a Roman Catholic Christian learn about our faith. Through interviews, classes and discussions, adults are prepared to accept the challenge of our baptism and encouraged to live the message and teachings of Jesus Christ. The RCIA process is also for those Catholics who have not been educated in our faith and have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Communion.
If you, or some one you know is interested in determining if God is calling you to be part of our faith community, please contact the Rectory office at 718-335-2626 to set up an appointment with one of our Priests.
