Twenty-eighth Sunday in

Ordinary Time

Wisdom 7:7-11

Psalm 90

Hebrews 4:12-13

Mark 10:17-30 or 10:17-27

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Day:

“All things are possible for God.” Jesus follows a se-

ries of challenging pronouncements with this line—

some of the most consoling words that he utters in the

Gospels. As we celebrate Mass today, recall the times

that you have had to rely on God because you didn’t

know if you could manage on your own. For us human

beings on our own, it may well be impossible, but for

God, all things are possible.

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word:

Solomon makes a wise decision in today’s first reading,

choosing wisdom over power or riches. He realizes

that those things are temporary, whereas wisdom is last-

ing. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches the rich man the same

lesson, noting the incompatibility of wealth and the

kingdom of God. This is our challenge today. How are

our temporary possessions obstacles to our mission and

ultimate goal? Can the “two-edged sword” that the

writer of Hebrews invokes separate what lasts from

what doesn’t.

©2018, World Library Publications

Question of the Week:

How does my attachment to my possessions keep me

from entering the kingdom of God? How might God

assist me in making it possible?

Liturgy for October 21, 2018:

Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sabiduría 7, 7-11

Salmo 89

Hebreos 4, 12-13

Marcos 10, 17-30 o 10, 17-27
