GOSPEL: John 20:19-31 What a surprise for the disciples! The risen Christ comes to them through locked doors, breathes on them, and says, "Receive the Holy Spirit." By the power of the Spirit, the disciples will forgive sins and communicate the peace of Jesus himself. However, there is another part to this gospel story. The story revolves around Thomas but it is also about us. Sometimes we are like Thomas and miss the most important part of our faith, belief in Jesus! But "blest" are we who are guided in faith by the Holy Spirit. 1.) There are times when a person needs to be alone to think about something, or to deal with a pain or hurt that others might not understand or share. At those times, we might be tempted to "lock the doors" of our hearts to those who may be able to help. Remember that the risen Jesus can come through locked doors! Ask him to send help, perhaps through a parent, teacher, or friend. 2.) Thomas is known as "the Doubter." However sometimes doubt can be a good thing. Why? What did Thomas' doubt lead to? Thomas doubted and we still call him a saint. Doubt was only one part of his path in following Jesus. What is a good way to handle our doubts?
EVANGELIO: Juan 20:19-31 ¡Qué sorpresa para los discípulos! El Cristo resucitado traspasa las puertas cerradas, sopla sobre ellos y les dice: "Reciban el Espíritu Santo." Por el poder del Espíritu, los discípu-los perdonan los pecados y comunican la paz de Jesús. Sin embar-go, hay otra parte en esta historia del evangelio. La historia se desarrolla alrededor de Tomás, pero es también sobre nosotros. Algunas veces somos como Tomás y nos perdemos la parte más importante de nuestra fe, creer en Jesús. Pero "bendito" los que son guiados en fe por el Espíritu Santo. 1.) Hay veces en que una persona necesita estar sola y pensar algunas cosas, o lidiar con la pena o las heridas que otros puedan no entender o compartir. En esos momentos, puede que estemos tentados a "cerrar las puertas" de nuestros corazones a los que quizás puedan ayudarnos. Recuerda que el Jesús resucitado pue-de traspasar esas puertas cerradas. Pídele enviar ayuda, quizás por medio de uno de tus padres, un maestro o un amigo. 2.) Tomás es conocido como "el que duda." Algunas veces la duda puede ser algo bueno. ¿Por qué? ¿A donde llevó a Tomás su du-da? Tomás dudó y nosotros seguimos llamándolo santo. La duda fue sólo un paso en su peregrinaje de seguir a Cristo. ¿Cuál es una buena forma de tratar con nuestras dudas?

Flores de Mayo: Todos están invitados a la celebración de Flores de Mayo, honrando a la Santísima Virgen María en Mayo. Los ritos para la canonización de los beatos Juan XXIII y Juan Pablo II del 27 de abril usará la forma regular para la creación de nuevos santos, pero la misa será precedida por el rezo de la coronilla de la Divina Misericordia y posiblemente contará con la presencia del Papa emérito Benedicto XVI, dijo el vocero del Vatica-no. La bóveda de los dos Papas no será alterada durante los días de la canoniza-ción excepto porque se le cambiará la ins-cripción de “beato” por la de “santo,” dijo el padre Lombardi. Los peregrinos podrán visitar la bóveda después de la misa del 27 de abril. Reliquias de los dos Papas serán presentadas durante la liturgia, dijo el vo-cero. La reliquia del Beato Juan Pablo – una partícula de su sangre colocada en un relicario con base de plata y diseñada con ramas de olivo- será la misma que se usó para la beatificación en el 2011. Un relica-rio similar fue hecho para la reliquia del Beato Juan, dijo Monseñor Guilo Dellavi-te, de la Diócesis de Bergamo, donde na-ció el Papa. Para la beatificación de Juan XXIII no se presento reliquias porque no se había preservado sangre o partes del cuerpo para ese propósito, dijo Monseñor. Sin embargo cuando se abrió la bóveda del Beato Juan en el 2001 para ser re-enterrado en la Basílica San Pedro algunos fragmentos de hueso fueron removidos para la canonización. Floribeth Mora Dias, una costarricense quien se recupero de un aneurisma cerebral fue el milagro aceptado para la canonización del Beato Juan Pablo II y la Hermana francesa, Marie Simon-Perre, quien fue sanada de la enfermedad de Parkinson fue aceptado como el mila-gro que abrió la vía para la beatificación. Las dos se espera que asistan, dijo el Padre Lombardi. La misa de canonización esta programada para las 10:00am del domingo después de la Pascua, día que la Iglesia celebra el Domingo dela Divina Misericor-dia. “Esperamos que mucha gente venga y estamos haciendo preparativos para darles la bienvenida,” dijo el Padre Lombardi.

Flores de Mayo: You are all invited to celebrate Flores de Mayo, Celebrating Mary in May. Everyday in May we will pray the rosary and offer flowers to our Blessed Mother Mary. During weekdays (Monday-Friday) we will begin at 6:00pm in the church. On the weekends (Saturday & Sun-day) we will begin after the 5:30pm Mass. We encourage everyone to come pray and offer flowers!

Recognizing that Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II have widespread reputations for
holiness and that years of studying their lives and actions have proven their exceptional virtue, Pope Francis announced he would declare his two predecessors saints at a single ceremony April 27. The pope made the announcement Sept. 30 at the end of an "ordinary public consis-tory," a gathering of cardinals and promoters of the sainthood causes of the two late popes. Blessed John Paul, known as a globetrotter who made 104 trips outside Italy, served as pope from 1978 to 2005 and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011. Blessed John XXIII, known particularly for convoking the Second Vatican Council, was pope from 1958 to 1963; Blessed John Paul beatified him in 2000. The choice of April 27, which will be Divine Mercy Sunday in 2014, was not a complete surprise. Speaking to report-ers traveling with him from Brazil to Rome July 28, Pope Francis said he had been considering Dec. 8, but the possibility of icy roads could make it difficult for Polish pilgrims who would travel by bus to Rome for the ceremony. Asked on the plane to describe the two late popes, Pope Francis said Blessed John was "a bit of the 'country priest,' a priest who loves each of the faithful and knows how to care for them; he did this as a bishop and as a nuncio." He was holy, patient, had a good sense of humor and, espe-cially by calling the Second Vatican Council, was a man of courage, Pope Francis said. "He was a man who let himself be guided by the Lord." As for Blessed John Paul, Pope Francis told the reporters on the plane, "I think of him as 'the great missionary of the church," because he was "a man who proclaimed the Gospel every-where." Pope Francis signed a decree recogniz-ing the miracle needed for Blessed John Paul's canonization July 5; the same day, the Vatican announced that the pope had agreed with mem-bers of the Congregation for Saints' Causes that the canonization of Blessed John should go for-ward even without a second miracle attributed to his intercession. Except in the case of martyr-dom, Vatican rules require one miracle for a candidate's beatification and a second for his or her canonization as confirmations that the candi-date really is in heaven with God.
