For the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit Holy Spirit, powerful Consoler, sacred bond of the Father and the Son, hope of the afflicted, descend into my heart and establish in it your loving rule. Enkindle in my lukewarm soul the fire of your love so that I may be wholly subject to you. We believe not only that you dwell in us, but that you prepare a dwelling for the Father and the Son. Come to me, Consoler of abandoned souls and protector of the needy. Help the afflicted, strengthen the weak, and support the wavering. Come and purify me. Let no evil desire take posses-sion of me. You love the humble and resist the proud. Come to me, glory of the living and hope of the dying. Lead me by your grace that I may always be pleasing to you. St. Augustine

A Convert’s View “I had the privilege to be sealed through the Sacrament of Confirmation into ‘God’s Universal Family,’ the Church, during Mass on Pentecost. As I confessed the faith of the Church that Christ founded through the words of the Nicene Creed during that Mass, I could hear with my ears those same words coming from the people in the pews in the cathedral. I also knew through faith that the angels and saints in Heaven were confessing those words with me. For me, whenever I go to Mass, it is a huge family reunion that is beyond the limits of space and time and unites Heaven and Earth together as we all worship our wonderful Father in Heaven.” Dr. Jeff

Schwwehm, PhD, former Mormon & convert to the Catholic Church

Vocation Prayer Holy loving God, you have graced us in numerous ways. You have called many holy heroic men and women to serve You and Your Church. We come to you once again, asking You to bless Your Church with generous souls by responding to the call of sisterhood, priesthood, brotherhood and diaconate. Give young men and women open hearts and minds to answer the call of serving those in need, bringing justice and peace to this broken world. May they be examples of the love of Jesus who came bringing hope, healing and joy. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.

Catechetical Instructions for Catholic Converts on How to Receive Their First Holy Communion in the Fourth Century "In approaching, therefore, come not with thy wrists extended or thy fingers spread, but make thy left hand a throne for the right, as for that which is to receive a King. And having hollowed thy palm, receive the body of Christ, saying over it 'Amen.' Then having carefully sanctified thine eyes with the touch of the holy body, partake of it, taking heed lest thou lose any portion thereof; for whatever thou losest is evi-dently a loss to thee as it were from one of thine own members. For tell me, if any one gave thee grains of gold, wouldst not thou hold them with all carefulness, being on thy guard against losing any of them and suffering loss? Wilt thou not then much more care-fully keep watch that not a crumb fall from thee of what is more precious than gold and precious stones? Then after thou hast partaken of the body of Christ draw near also to the chalice of his blood; not stretch-ing forth thine hands, but bending, and saying with worship and reverence 'Amen,' hallow thyself by par-taking also of the blood of Christ. And while the moisture is still on thy lips, touch it with thy hands and hallow thine eyes and brow and the other organs of sense. Then wait for the prayer and give thanks to God who has accounted thee worthy of so great mys-teries. Keep these traditions inviolate, and preserve thy-selves from offenses. Do no cut thyselves off from Communion; do not deprive thyselves, through the pollution of sins, of these Holy and Spiritual Myster-ies. And may the God of peace sanctify thee com-pletely; and may thine body and soul and spirit be preserved intact at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; to who by glory, honor, and might; with Fa-ther, and Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever, unto ages of ages. Amen.” St. Cyril, Bishop of Jerusalem, 350

The Feast of Corpus Christi, or the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (as it is often called today), goes back to the 13th century, but it celebrates some-thing far older: the institution of the

Sacrament of Holy Communion at the Last Supper.

The Feast of Corpus Christi is a moveable feast celebrating the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It is one of the ten Holy Days of Obligation in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church. In some countries, however, including the United States, the celebration of Corpus Christi (and thus the obligation to attend Mass) has been transferred to the following Sunday—that is, one week after Trinity Sunday.

Religious Education Kathy Nichols, Coordinator - 656-9546 Sundays 8:45 - 10:00 am

Last Class May 22nd

Dear friends, A good friend once said that in a perfect world, things always go perfectly; and this is not a perfect world! I thought of this last Sunday when our friends from Oxford called saying Father Bebel would be arriving late for the Sunday Mass. (He had the Mass times confused for St. Josephs and ICC.) I thought we filled the time well with the peaceful guitar strumming and the impromptu building & grounds update! Thank you for your patience in times like that! The plans for the Marian Memorial Garden are moving right along! We are in the process of get-ting bids for the stone paved walking surface and retaining wall flowerbed. Tom and Stephanie and I went out to Midway Sales in Lisle and looked at their arbors, pergolas and gazebos. The arbors were a good price, made out of treated pine and come assembled. The gazebo seemed liked a good idea because they come assembled as well, with a shin-gle roof AND the delivery was included in the price. We plan on 4 benches and a statue of the Blessed Mother for the center of the garden. We were advised to reconsider the recirculating water fountain because of the lack of shade. The goal is to provide an outdoor prayer space for individuals and groups. We expect the total cost to be just under $25,000 and so far we have raised over $4,000 toward the garden, with funds from the football pool, the HOPE appeal overage from 2015, and individual donations. The fundraisers coming up are the flower sale this weekend, the recyclable metal drive that goes until May 31, a bottle/can drive on June 4 from 8-10 am, a booth at the Greene Area Craft Show with donated handmade items from pa-rishioners in July and possibly a polish dinner! The big-ticket items in order are the stonework, the ga-zebo, 4 benches, 2 arbors, the statue, the artwork and finally the dirt and flowers! The projected month for completion is July. As soon as the bids for the stonework are in we will have a coffee hour after Mass to discuss more details, and you can find out how you can help. We need all hands on deck! This will be a beautiful, handicapped accessible addition to our parish. If you haven’t made a dona-tion please consider one in memory of a loved one. Thank you! Have a wonderful week. Peace!~Mary Wentlent
