We are somebody special!

The other day I heard an interesting descrip-tion of Sacred Heart Parish. A parish member said to me, “You know, this parish is my family. Of course I have a family, but this parish, these people are really

somebody special. So many people have stepped up to help me. Thanks be to God for them!” Those words are a wonderful compliment to all of us, “these people are really somebody special”.

This is a great lead in to Pentecost Sunday, the birth-day of the church. This Sunday’s story gives birth to our church. We are remade by the Holy Spirit into ‘somebody special’. Consider all the gifts which God gives us

through the Holy Spirit: some of us teach your chil-dren how to receive Holy Eucharist, others are readers at Mass, still others bring the Blessed Sacrament to those who are ill, still others instruct teenagers in the

preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Some among us serve through the St Vincent DePaul Socie-ty to assist those in need.

But most of us are sent out to work in the world as teachers, nurses, nurses’ aides, business men and women, city and state officials. The Holy Spirit inspires us, impels us to do all the works that needed

in the world. This church, this building is just a place to draw us together to comfort the weary, to inspire the generous, to challenge the young.

And so the church builds and rebuilds itself. We are built through many of us living and witness-ing in our lives to God’s power at work in the world through our willingness to cooperate with Spirit of

God in our world. A blessed Pentecost! Msgr. Frank Kelley

GOLFERS! GOLFERS! GOLFERS!

SPONSORS! SPONSORS! SPONSORS! Sacred Heart’s 18th annual golf tournament is set for Friday, September 18th at George Wright. This is the parish’s one and only yearly fund raiser that supports BOTH the parish and the school. Its helped many things become a reality such as, the stations of the cross in the upper church, new windows and white boards at the school and more. This year, now that all our facilities have been up-dated and fixed, we need to make our upper church accessi-ble to those who can’t climb the stairs, the disabled, and we all know someone who can’t get up there. So our golf tour-nament will kick off fundraising for this special project that will assist all of us, especially our disabled parishioners. All you can do to help financially for this special need would be great. Spread the word! Ask around who can golf that day (we need 100+ golfers), it’s a great day everyone al-ways enjoys! We also need a small team of people to help find sponsors, large and small. So it’s important to become part of the team well in advance! AND if we can get this under way before summer gets settled in our minds, because golf comes up very quick-ly after the Labor Day weekend. Bob LePore

so.
