Thanks to the coordination of David Law and Vicki Mudd, SCC members have spent the late spring and summer months on the go with several small group trips to locales such as Allerton Park and the Monticello Railway Museum in Piatt County, Illinois State Fair in Springfield in

August, the 5th Annual Big River Steampunk Festival in Hannibal, MO in early September, and the 17th Annual Mother Road Festival in Springfield in late September.

Members of the SCC and SCC Facebook Group also will take part in the Scott Kelby/KelbyOne Worldwide Photo Walk on October 6. There will be a morning walk by the Lincoln Home, Old State Capitol and parts of downtown Springfield, and an afternoon walk at New Salem State Park in Petersburg.

Additionally, small groups of members have been heading out on a fairly regular basis to Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area in Cass County. Jim Edgar Panther Creek SFWA is the second darkest spot in Illinois and, being away from city lights, it makes an excellent place to shoot the Milky Way and astronomical events such as the Perseid meteor shower in August.

Officer and Committee Reports President’s Message – Vicki Mudd Hello everyone, Wow, I can’t believe that the 2018-19 year has begun for our CICCA member clubs, and the 2018 CICCA Fall Salon is less than two months away. It seems like summer just flew by very quickly! This will be my final letter as the president of CICCA and I want to begin by thanking a few people who have helped and supported me during my term as president. First, I want to thank all the CICCA Board members and recognize them by name for all the great work that they have done in the last 2 years, vice-president and Courier editor, Randy von Liski; CICCA secretary Andrea Monninger; CICCA treasurer, Mary Cattell; CICCA past president, Terry Stoa; and Tom Ruhland, for his continued work with the CICCA website. The 2018 CICCA Spring Salon hosted by the Great River Camera Club was one of the best organized salons I have attended and, other than a couple of unforeseeable bumps, went very smoothly. A big thank you to Hal Woods, Ryno Olsen and the Great River Camera Club for their outstanding job hosting the salon. The 2018 CICCA Fall Salon is scheduled for November 10 in Urbana, Illinois. There will be a business meeting after the salon, which brings me to a serious matter that I want to bring to the attention of our CICCA representatives and members of the camera clubs represented in CICCA.

My term as CICCA president will end at the business meeting immediately following the fall salon. CICCA vice-president, Randy von Liski, informed the board in May that he does not wish to be nominated to succeed me.

So, after November 10, CICCA will need a president and a vice-president who are willing to serve in those positions for the next 2 years. If you are willing to serve in either position, or are interested and have questions about the positions, please contact your club’s CICCA representative, and let them know as soon as possible. Finally, it has been an honor to serve as the president of CICCA for the past two years. I have gotten to know many of the members of our CICCA clubs much more than I had before, and I am very grateful for both the advice you have given me, and the support you have shown me. We’ve suffered some losses of long-standing CICCA club members and gained new ones along the way. We’ve agreed, disagreed and, at times, even had to agree to disagree. I came into the presidency with a knowledge of what CICCA offers to its members, and a vision of what the CICCA organization could do to better serve our member clubs and help them grow and thrive.

Page 13: CICCA COURIER - the Decatur Camera Clubthedecaturcameraclub.org/news/sum18.pdf · CICCA Courier Page 3 Summer-Fall 2018 The skyline of Muscatine, Iowa in winter as seen from the Illinois

CICCA Courier Page 13 Summer-Fall 2018

I leave wishing I could have achieved more as president. While I have a few regrets, I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to head this wonderful organization. Thank you for allowing me to do that. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for CICCA, and to seeing everyone on November 10 at the fall salon in Urbana. Vicki Mudd, President, Central Illinois Camera Club Association (CICCA)

Treasurer's Report – Mary D. Cattell Annual club dues to CICCA for 2018-19 are due on December 1. Please send the check to me made out to CICCA at: 1511 Alma Drive, Champaign, IL 61820.

Editor’s Notes – Randy von Liski In the last issue of the Courier, I put out a call to our CICCA representatives to report information about your club’s activities. In this issue, I am repeating my call. Here are just a few of the news items and activities you can report on in Club News:

• Upcoming program topics with dates and meeting location(s), if known.

• News about upcoming special events (guest speakers) and activities such as club trips, adventures, and seminars.

• News about recent past programs, events and activities that were particularly successful or well received.

• Any type of outreach or community engagement your club has been doing to increase the community profile and/or membership of your club.

• Recognition of the awards, honors and achievements earned and bestowed upon your individual club members (we are glad to reprint any honored photographs – see examples in this issue provided by the Decatur Camera Club.)

Fewer than half of our CICCA member clubs regularly report Club News, and a few of our clubs never report at all. While there is no expectation for a club to report news on all of the topics pointed to above in every issue, I again ask every CICCA representative to answer the call for Club News when requested. We all can learn from each other, and every one of our clubs has something to contribute. I wish to thank the CICCA representatives who have consistently helped to fill these pages since I became editor in 2017. You know who you are, and you know I appreciate the effort you’ve made to use the Courier Club News to build a better sense of community within CICCA. I welcome your feedback and suggestions. Contact me at [email protected] Randy von Liski, vice president and Courier editor

Nominating Committee Report – Terry Stoa At the 2017 Fall and 2018 Mid-Winter meetings I requested that Board members and CICCA representatives seek members from their respective clubs who would be good candidates to fill future president, vice president and other officer positions on the Board. I personally have not been active in CICCA long enough to know the membership well and therefore to understand who might be willing and able to serve as CICCA officers. If members are not willing to assume leadership positions, then CICCA cannot continue. With that being the case, I will propose the following motion to president Vicki Mudd for consideration by the Board at the Annual Meeting that follows the 2018 Fall Salon in Urbana:

I move that the Executive Committee prepare a comprehensive plan for dissolution of CICCA to be presented to the CICCA Board of Directors no later than _______________, 2018. Such plan will detail the wind-down process and will include, but is not necessarily limited to, (a) an inventory of CICCA’s assets, (b) an assessment of CICCA’s liabilities, (c) distribution of remaining assets and (d) formal dissolution of the CICCA not-for-profit entity through the Illinois Secretary of State. Each CICCA Representative will discuss the plan with their respective clubs and will be prepared to consider final approval of the plan by the Board of Directors no later than _______________.
