Winter 2014
CIRCLE TIMENews from The Children’s Center
It is with grateful hearts that the trustees and employees of The Children’s Center wish our supporters and families a holiday season filled with happiness and health.
We have been blessed this year with many significant grants and donations from friends in the community who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children.
Because you care, more than 200 children attend The Children’s center each day where they receive high quality education and childcare.
Because you care, working parents can continue to support their families knowing their children are in a safe environment and getting a great start in life.
Here are a few of the reasons our donors support The Children’s Center:
“Because our family’s charitable foundation supports children’s education, we chose the Building Blocks Scholarship Fund. The nurturing environment at The Children’s Center offers the essential early start to develop self-esteem.”
“The largest share of our yearly contribution to The Children’s Center goes to the Annual Appeal because we want to support day-to–day operations. Teacher salaries, utilities, classroom supplies, facility maintenance and upgrades are vital budgeted needs.”
“We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, smaller group, great food and no auction or long speeches this year at the Spring event at the South Carolina Yacht Club. There was a good spokesperson at every table and take-home information to answer our questions.”
Recently, you received a letter and basic fact sheet from The Children’s Center asking for a contribution to our Annual Appeal. We hope you have responded to our request and added your support to the daily operation of The Children’s Center as it provides year-round affordable, quality educational programs for children of our community’s working families.
If you have not had the opportunity to contribute, won’t you take a moment and use the enclosed envelope to support the well-being and educational needs of our community’s children?
After all – YOU MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE
Warm Holiday Greetings from The Children’s Center!!

The Children’s Center Introduces Information Kit
The Children’s Center is the second oldest non-profit on Hilton Head Island! It was founded in 1967 by community leaders Reverend Isaac Wilborn and Mrs. Billie Hack.
Rev. Wilborn and Mrs. Hack understood that all children, regardless of their economic situation, have the same needs: loving care in a safe environment and an opportunity to succeed. They knew that if those needs are met, children can move forward productively and happily. The Children’s Center is now one of the highest impact pre-school early learning programs in our community.

Winter 2014 3
When Donna Manske became of President of the Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island (WAHHI) this year, “making a difference” became the cornerstone of WAHHI’s community service program for its 570 members. Each month, volunteers go to non-profit organizations to lend a hand. Fortunately for The Children’s Center, their efforts include reading to our children and helping out in the classrooms on a regular basis.
In September, WAHHI embarked on the “Cozy Coat Campaign” for the more than 200 children at The Children’s Center. “We want every child at The Children’s Center to have a new heavy, water repellent coat as we go into this winter season,” explains Donna. “Tonya Jenkins and the teachers did a great job in getting us the sizes of every child and our members had a wonderful time shopping for the coats.”
Coincidentally, the coats were given to the children on the coldest day of the year so far! As the children began to arrive at the Center at 6:30 a.m. on November 15, they picked out their own coats. As they proudly tried them on, their picture was taken with their parent. “It was like giving each child a big hug!” says Donna.
In addition, at WAHHI’s Christmas Luncheon, members bring wrapped gifts for the children at The Children’s Center. This year the Lady Bug classroom of four and five year olds sang “Frozen” at the WAHHI luncheon.
“WAHHI has enjoyed a long relationship with The Children’s Center,” according to Site Director Tonya Jenkins. “It has become one of friendship and fellowship between the two organizations – organizations devoted to “making a difference” in the community together.”
A Special Thank You . . .To all those in our generous community who came to the aid of Ms. Georgia Aiken, a Lead Teacher in The Children’s Center mobile infant room, when a fire completely destroyed her home and all of her belongings.
In her hour of need, Ms. Georgia was able to relocate her teenage son and two grandchildren with beds, dressers, night stands, linens, bicycles, and dishes donated by so many. Because our local businesses, employees, families, individuals and Board of Trustee members came together immediately after the file, a difference was made in the life of someone who had lost everything!
