All India Coordinated Project on Agroforestry w e f 2006 to Oct 2008” (Concluded Studies)

Following studies conducted under the project during the two years under report:

1. Agri-Silvipasture studies: Bio economic productivity of Agrisilvipasture system integrating Elm (Ulmus wallichiana) with different agricultural crops and Grasses (Red Clover, Meadow fescue and Red fescue)

Garlic, peas, tomato and potato so far has proved to be the best inter crop under elm.

2. Silvipasture studies: Growth and Biomass productivity of Populus deltoides and Catalpa bignonioides in association with red clover (Trifolium pretense)

Combination plots of tree components and grasses recorded more biomass per unit area compared to sole crop.

Tree Improvement / MPTS Evaluation

3. Source evaluation of Salix species: Collection and evaluation of Salix germplasm in nursery

Pulwama and Anantnag CPT proved to be the best among the evaluated material.

10 seed sources from 10 districts of Kashmir valley evaluated. Pulwama source proved to be the best.

37:3:5 Standardization of staining patterns in different conifer seeds through TTZ test for interpretation of viability

Staining pattern standardized for deodar and blue pine. In Cedrus deodara six different staining patterns were observed while as in Pinus wallichiana only four staining patterns were observed.

41:2:1 Effect of different sowing dates on germination and growth parameters of six important broad leaved tree species of Kashmir valley

Results obtained revealed that best sowing time for Prunus armeniaca, Ailanthus altissima and Quercus robur is November month where as the best sowing time for Fraxinus floribunda is December followed by Robinia pseudoacacia in 1st February and Amorpha fruticosa in 1st March.

25:L Maintenance and improvement of arboretum (Co PI)

Forestry and agro forestry tree species are being maintained in the arboretum for demonstrations. 47 different tree species including both broad leaved as well as conifers were maintained in the arboretum.

29:L Maintenance of Poplar germplasm (Co PI)

Five Populus species viz: Populus deltoids, Populus nigra, Populus ciliata, Poplus alba and Populus yunenansis are being maintained in the nursery. During the period under report 8 different clones of Populus deltoides viz. UDH-1002, UFC-1001, UD-1, UD-31, UD-9004, SS1, SS2 and SS3. Identified as disease free from within the germplasm.

PBG-45:3:2: Evaluation & Development of QPM/Normal Maize Germplasm for Cold Arid Zone of (KARGIL).

Highland Maize Germplasm from International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre- (CIMMYT-Mexico) CIMMYT-ARMP (India) , DMR New Delhi, Kishen Ganga-1 & Kishen Ganga-2 from SKUAST-K
