Introduction
The Cirrus LT is a zero client notebook that allows you to securely connect to any kind of network, remote host, or virtual machine. The Cirrus LT has no local storage, so there is no vulnerability to viruses or malware, and no files or information will be compromised if the notebook is lost or stolen.
The Cirrus LT is based on Teradici’s high performance TERA2321 processor, which uses the PCoIP protocol. PCoIP compresses, encrypts, and encodes the entire computing expe-rience at the data center and transmits it as pixels across the IP network to a zero client. Remote users have effortless access to a fully functional, even HD, computing experience-- and now secure computing functionality is available for the first time on a zero client laptop.
Compact, lightweight, and engineered for high performance, Cirrus LT using PCoIP tech-nology is optimized for VMWare Horizon View for a highly efficient IT administrative experience and low cost of ownership. Cirrus LT supports both copper and fiber and Wi-Fi and delivers state-of-the-art security, AES 128/256 bit encryption/decryption and Suite B ciphers.
The Cirrus LT breaks the last security barrier and sets a new performance standard for computing practicality.

Powering Up Your Notebook
Your notebook can be powered up using the AC Adapter or the Lithium-ion battery.
Connecting the AC AdapterThe AC adapter powers up your notebook and charges the battery.
• Connect the AC adapter to the DC-in jack of your notebook.• Connect the AC adapter to the power cord.• Plug the power cord to an electrical outlet.

Installing the BatteryTo install the battery, follow the steps below:
1. Align and slide the battery into the battery compartment.
2. Push the battery into the compartment until the battery locks into place, and make sure the latches are locked into position. The left latch will automatically go into the locked position when you push the battery in place, but you must manually lock the right latch, as shown.

Using Battery PowerInstall a charged battery in the battery compartment by removing the AC adapt-er (if plugged in). Your notebook will automatically use the battery power.
Charging the BatteryThe Lithium-ion battery is not fully-charged upon purchase.
To charge the battery, follow the steps below:3. Install the battery to your notebook. See procedures above.4. Connect the AC adapter to the DC-in jack of your notebook.5. Connect the AC adapter to the power cord.6. Plug the power cord to an electrical outlet.
NOTE: Charging the battery while the Cirrus LT is powered off will shorten the charging time to 2 hours. If the Cirrus LT is on, it will take approximately 2.5 hours to charge the unit.

Starting Your Notebook
Opening the Display PanelThe notebook lid is secured with small magnets while closed and is easily opened.
• To open, simply lift the cover lid up to the upright position.
• To close, carefully place the cover lid down. Do not slam it shut.

Turning On Your Notebook• Press the Power button until the Power LED lights up.
Note: To force a hard shut down, press and hold the Power button for more than four seconds.
Using the Keyboard
Function KeysThe function keys allow you perform certain tasks on your notebook. Below is a list of the function keys and their actions:
Fn-F1: Turns Wi-Fi on and off. Fn-F2: Decreases screen brightness Fn-F3: Increases screen brightness Fn-F4: Turns Native Display on and off. Fn-F5: Toggles between various available display modes. Fn-F6: Enables and disables the touchpad Fn-F7: Turns sound on and off. Fn-F8: Decreases volume Fn-F9: Increases volume Fn-F10: Brings up On Screen Menu (OSM) Fn-F11: Turns status bar on and off Fn-F12: Enables or disables webcam (webcam optional)
Note: Where ever Fn-F10 is used from here on out in the document you can also use SHIFT-F10 when using an external USB keyboard.

Touchpad
The touch pad is a cursor-pointing device. You can point, select, or drag items or objects on the screen. For more details on the touchpad, see Device Manager Section in Chapter 4.
PointSlide your finger on the touch pad to point the cursor to an item or object on the screen.
ClickTo left-click, move the cursor to the item or object on the screen, then lightly tap the touch pad or press the left button.
To right-click, move the cursor to the item or object on the screen, then press the right button.
Double-clickTo double-click, move the cursor to the item or object on the screen, then tap the touch pad twice or press the left button twice.
DragTo drag an item or object, press and hold the left button then slide your finger on the touch pad to move the item or object.

Using the Fingerprint Reader
Shown below is the optional scanning fingerprint reader. There is also an option for a swipe fingerprint reader or for no fingerprint reader at all.

Chapter 3: Making Connections
This chapter will guide you on installing peripheral devices to maximize the use of your notebook. It covers the following sections:

Connecting External Display Devices
You can connect your notebook to other display devices, such as a projector or an-other display monitor.
Your notebook is equipped with miniDisplayPort which provides digital video sig-nals.
Note: The DisplayPort Cable is not included in the package. It is sold separately or it may come with your external display device.
Note: The Cirrus LT is designed to support both passive and active miniDP to DVI adapters. The Cirrus LT is compatible with most new adapters but there are a few older adapters that will not work. NCS sells a variety of adapters for most modern LCDs out in the market today, i.e. MiniDP to DP, MiniDP to DVI, MiniDP to VGA, etc. You may purchase these miniDP adapters from NCS to ensure complete com-patibility for your Cirrus LT. Additionally, due to the nature of converting miniDP to VGA, all of these adapters are considered active adapters.
Connecting a Projector or Display Monitor1. Connect one end of a DisplayPort cable to the miniDisplayPort of your
notebook.2. Connect the other end to a projector or display monitor.

Connecting USB Devices
You can connect your notebook to other USB devices, such as a mouse, keyboard, digital camera, printer, or an external hard disk drive.
Connect one end of a USB cable to the USB port of your notebook.
Connect the other end to the USB device.
Note: The USB cable is not included in the package. It is sold separately or it may come with your USB device.
Note: USB devices (including, but not limited to, printers, optical drives, and hard drives) that do not have their own power sources are not officially supported. Most of these devices tend to draw too much power from the USB port. But, you can still connect these devices to the Cirrus LT. If the device only has one USB port, use one of the two PCoIP USB ports on the left side of the notebook. If the device has two USB ports (one for enumeration and one for auxiliary power), use one PCoIP USB port for the enumeration plug and the charging USB port (also located on the left side of the notebook) for the auxiliary power plug. Refer to the image below.

Connecting to a Mouse and Keyboard
Using a mouse in the dedicated mouse port ensures full functionality when con-nected to a remote host and when you pull up the OnScreen Menu. The same ap-plies for the dedicated keyboard port.
To connect to an external mouse:• Plug the mouse into the USB port with the picture of a mouse over it.
To connect to an external keyboard:• Plug the keyboard into the USB port with the picture of the keyboard over it.
Note: The mouse and keyboard are not included in the package. They are sold separately.
REMINDER: when using an external keyboard in the dedicated USB keyboard port you can press SHIFT-F10 to bring up the Cirrus LT OnScreen Menu.
Certain special multifunction or Bluetooth combo mouse and keyboards will work in the dedicated keyboard port. Not all of these special devices have been tested. As a general rule, you can try without harming the Cirrus LT, special keyboards should be plugged into the dedicated USB keyboard port on the right hand side for compat-ibility. Combo Bluetooth keyboard and mouse dongles should be plugged into the dedicated USB keyboard port.
If for some reason these special keyboards do not work in the dedicated keyboard port, try them on the PCoIP USB ports on the left hand side of the notebook. You may need to load drivers once the device is detected in the remote OS. Please con-tact NCS Help Desk if you identify a USB keyboard that does not work correctly in the dedicated USB keyboard port. We are always looking to make our products compatible with the latest peripherals.

Connecting Headphones
Note: This port is located on the right side of the notebook.
Headphones/Headset Jack
You can connect either headphones or external speakers to the Cirrus LT Notebook via its Headphones/Headset Port (see above). This Headphones/Headset Port also supports Combo Headsets (Headphone/MIC) which come with a single plug (seen, for example on the iPhone headphone), as well as CTIA and OMTP Headsets.
Note: Headsets are not compatible with the Headphone Port on the Docking Sta-tion or with the Microphone Jacks on the Notebook or the Docking Station.
Audio SubsystemBy default, audio will be output to the Cirrus LT’s built-in speakers when the Headphones/Headset Port is not used. If a webcam is installed, the webcam microphone can be used for applications like Skype.
When a Headset (Ex: Apple Headset) is plugged in, audio will be output to the Headset. Also, the Headset microphone will get priority if a dedicated micro-phone is also connected to Cirrus LT Microphone Jack.
Connecting an External Microphone
You can connect your notebook to an external microphone by plugging the audio jack of the microphone to the Microphone jack of your notebook.
Note: If you want to use the Docking Station Microphone jack while on a virtual machine, you must install a driver. You can download this driver at http://www.ncst.com/content/downloads-0
Note: If you have a USB headphone and Mic device, plug these into the PCoIP USB ports.

Connecting the Docking Station
CAUTION: You must connect the 90 Watt AC Adapter (19V, 4.74A) to the Docking Station in order for the Cirrus LT to function correctly while in the Docking Sta-tion.
You can connect your notebook to a Docking Station. The Docking Station has many of the same ports as the notebook except it also has two DVI-D ports and a fiber SFP port.
To connect your notebook to the Docking Station:1. Pull out the extender on the left side of the Docking Station.

2. Ensure the notebook Docking Station port cover is removed before you try to dock the notebook into the Docking Station.

Note: There is also a handy storage location for this port cover. See the high-lighted area shown below.
3. Notice the two small triangles on the notebook lid; these match up with the triangles on the Docking Station. Line these up, and then firmly press down on the lid of the notebook. You should hear a click, and then the notebook is properly docked into the Docking Station.

• To disconnect your notebook from the Docking Station:1. Pull up the black lever on the back right side of the port connector.

2. Lift the notebook out of the Docking Station.
Note: The notebook and Docking Station use different AC adapters. Make sure you are using the 90 Watt Adapter (19V - 4.74A) with the Docking Station.
While the notebook is docked in the Docking Station, the dedicated USB key-board and mouse ports will not work and these ports are active in the Docking Station only. These ports are labeled with an icon of a mouse and a keyboard. However, the two PCoIP and charging ports on the notebook will still work giving you a total of 6 working USB Ports when using the Docking Station and two charging USB Ports.
Hot-docking (placing the Cirrus LT on the Docking Station while the Cirrus LT has power) the Cirrus LT is technically not supported, but will work in most situations. USB devices inserted in the PCoIP ports on the Docking Station will not work after a hot-dock event. You must either dock when the Cirrus LT is off or restart Cirrus LT for these devices to function after docking.

Configuring the Audio for Remote Hosts
Connecting to Teradici Host PC

Connecting to VMHost1. Download and install the latest PCoIP Audio Driver provided by Teradici

Docking Station Audio SubsystemThe Cirrus LT Docking Station has a Line-out port which is intended to be con-nected to desktop speakers (see below).
Microphone Jack
Speaker Jack
The Docking Station Microphone Jack is a replica of Cirrus LT Microphone Jack to support traditional analog microphones or combo Headsets which have separate MIC and Headphone plugs.
Priority of the audio plugs while docked are as follows:
• By default, audio will be output to the built-in speakers when Headset/Line-out port is not used. If a webcam is installed, the webcam MIC can be used for appli-cations like Skype.
• When the Line-out Port on the Docking Station is connected to external speaker, this port will get priority and internal speakers will not produce sound. Similarly, Docking Station microphone port will get priority when used over the ports on the Cirrus LT.
• When the Docking Station ports are not used, the Cirrus LT audio ports and speakers will have priority.

Installing a SFP Module
The SFP module goes into the Fiber SFP port on the Docking Station and allows you to use fiber optic cable for more secure networking. The SFP module is pictured below.
To install the SFP module:
1. Place the SFP module into the Fiber SFP port. Make sure the side with the black tab is facing up, and the tab lever is pulled out, as shown below.

Chapter 4: Navigating the On Screen Menu
Use the On Screen Menu (OSM) to configure various parameters on your Cirrus LT. To invoke the OSM you press Fn-F10. You can navigate through the OSM with the touchpad or with an external mouse connected to the dedicated USB Mouse Port located on the right side of your notebook.
When using an external USB keyboard that is connected to the dedicated USB keyboard port (on the right side of the notebook) you can also invoke the OSM by pressing SHIFT-F10. This is handy when using the notebook along with a Docking Station and the note-book lid is closed because you are using external monitors, keyboard and mouse. Since most external keyboards do not have a function key, pressing SHIFT-F10 will bring up the OSM for your convenience.
On Screen Menu (OSM) Structure
The On Screen Menu (OSM ) is based on a tree structure moving from left to right as you drill deeper into the menu system. Each level of the tree will have a title and various options to choose from; either click an option to move down the tree or to make a selection with the mouse pointer. You can also click any option higher in the tree structure to select that menu. Finally, to exit the OSM either click the X on the bottom left corner of the menu or press Fn-F10 again.
Note: When you open the OSM, a second cursor will appear. This cursor operates within the OSM only. When you close the OSM, the cursor will disappear.
Note: As you are clicking through the settings in the OSM, you will not have to “confirm” any changes except in critical situations such as shutting down the notebook or changing your password. All other changes will save automatically.

Main Menu
The main menu has the following items:• Network: For changing network connectivity settings• Display: For changing the display options and modes• Power Management: For configuring OSM, Low Power Mode, and Sleep Timing
Preferences.• Device Manager: For configuring speaker volume, webcam, and touchpad
settings.• Administrator: For configuring authentication credentials of local and
administrator accounts and other administrator settings.
The bottom left of the main menu also allows you to close the menu, shut down the system, restart the system, and connect/disconnect from the remote session, as shown below.

Network
This network Submenu lets you configure wired and wireless settings and al-lows you to enable and disable both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections.
EthernetTo enable the Ethernet:
1. Click the Network Submenu.2. Select Ethernet.3. Click the Enable Ethernet selection box. A green check mark signifies
that Ethernet has been enabled, as shown below.

Wi-FiAll wireless configuration is done in these menus. You can enable or disable wireless entirely. If you want to auto connect to the same set of wireless LANs (WLANs) you can save those for auto connection at a later time*. Once connect-ed to a WLAN, you can see signal strength and the IP Address obtained.
* This can be disabled in the Administrator menu.

Available NetworksYou can see all the available Wi-Fi networks with this option. You can click on the WLAN you would like to connect to and then enter the password for the WLAN. Remember to check the “Save Connection” check box if you would like to save this information for future convenience.* Available wireless networks are sorted by signal strength. WLANs that have higher signal strength are at the top of the list, while low signal strength WLANs can be found at the bottom of the list.
* You can disable this feature in the Administrator Menu.
To see available networks:1. Click the Network Submenu.2. Select Wi-Fi.3. Click Available Networks.

4. Choose the network you wish to connect to.
Note: Networks that do not broadcast their SSID will be placed at the bot-tom of the list and labeled as “Join Other Network.” You will then have to provide the SSID, password, and security protocol.

5. Choose the Network Type from the top drop down list.
When selecting a network from the available networks list, the OSM will automatically detect the proper network type. You only need to select the network type of hidden networks.
Note: When making wireless connections the Cirrus LT only supports WPA2 and higher levels of security. This system does not support WEP for its many security flaws.

6. Type in your authentication credentials, and click Connect, as shown be-low.
IMPORTANT: The maximum password length is 64 characters.
IMPORTANT: you cannot use certain characters in the wireless net-work name (SSID) and you cannot use certain characters in your password. See below for a list of supported and unusable characters:

Note: If for some reason this section is always blank, you need to enable “Al-low Saving Wi-Fi Password” in the System Admin Section. This will add a new check box when signing onto Wi-Fi networks labeled “Save”. By checking this check box you will be adding this Wi-Fi network as a preferred network. If you would also like to auto connect to that network, you must select the auto con-nect check box in the Wi-Fi Networking Menu.

Web Portal• Some public Wi-Fi networks will require you to confirm or authenticate to the
Wi-Fi network via a web page. If this is the case you need to enable the Web Portal (also known as a Captive Portal) feature under the administrator settings in order for another window to pop up for you to interact with that Wi-Fi networks web interface. To connect to a Public Wi-Fi Open Network, you are often presented with a web page to accept a usage agreement, like the example shown below. In these cases, Cirrus LT supports most of these types of authentication web pages.
Note: The Cirrus LT’s Network Settings are set to ‘Web Portal’ by default.

• Just ensure you have connected to the open Wi-Fi network and then once you are sure you have an IP Address, then click on Web Portal selection in the Network Menu.
• If for some reason the network you are on does not have a web portal, Cirrus LT will take you to a default web page on ncst.com to confirm everything is working properly and you should be able to do a remote session.
Note: You may need to click REFRESH on the Web Portal to display the web page.
NCS strives to support as many different types of web portal pages, but unfortu-nately incompatibilities will arise. In these cases, please enter a support ticket on NCS’s Support Page with the web page or location that you were not able to connect to and we will investigate why Cirrus LT was unable to connect.

Display Settings
In the Display Settings Menu, you can select the display configuration of the notebook and adjust display brightness. You can even disable the native LCD.

Native Display OffThis feature allows you to turn off the Native Display.

Status BarThe status bar Submenu allows you to control the visibility and position of the status bar.

Option 1: Use Native LCD Display OnlyThis is the default choice that the Cirrus LT is set to, in order to only use the Cirrus LT’s notebook display.
Option 2: Clone Native LCD on Display 1 of Docking Station1. In order to Clone your display with a Docking Station you will need to
connect your laptop into the Docking Station and then connect an exter-nal display to PCoIP1/Local (DVI1) Port. You then select the following option in the On Screen Menu, as shown below:
2. This cloning method will duplicate the same display resolution of the Cirrus LT LCD and is locked to this resolution.

Option 3: Turn off Native LCD; Use Display 1 of Docking Station, and Display 2 of the MiniDP port or Docking StationThis option allows you to close the notebook lid and use Display 2, or have one display plugged into the Docking Station and a second miniDP Port for another screen for an extended desktop.
Option 4: Use Display 1 on Docking Station Only
Choose this is option if you wish to use Display 1 on the Docking Station only.

Cloning Displays Without a Docking Station1. In order to clone two displays without the use of a Docking Station
you must first attach a display to the miniDP port on the notebook. You then select the following display mode in the On Screen Menu:

Power Management
The Power Management Section allows you to customize the Cirrus LT’s On Screen Menu (OSM) Timeout, determine when Low Power Mode should be enabled, and to choose when Sleep Mode should be enabled.

Changing the Duration of the On Screen Menu (OSM) TimeoutThere are two ways to set the OSM Timeout interval. The first way can be set within the OSM itself, under Power Management > Power Settings > OSM Time-out. The second way is via Teradici’s Firmware Menu.
Note: You may change the duration of the timeout with either option. However, please note that if the OSM ‘Menu Display Timeout’ Menu and the Teradici ‘OSM Screen Saver Timeout’ Menu are set to different intervals, the Cirrus LT will automatically use the lowest selected interval.
Option 1: Via the OSM Power Management > Power Settings > OSM TimeoutTo change the timeout duration via the On Screen Menu Timeout:
1. Click the Power Management Submenu, then click the OSM Timeout bar, as shown below.

minutes. For example, if you wanted to set the duration to 10 minutes, you would enter 600 seconds (Teradici’s Firmware OSM Screen-Saver Timeout default is set to 300 seconds, or 5 minutes). If you enter ‘0’ Sec-onds, the OSM Screen-Saver Timeout will be disabled.
4. Click the ‘Apply’ button when you are done.

Low Power Mode
Enabling Low Power ModeEnabling this mode enables the sleep mode and auto power off. If this is disabled these options disappear and the unit will not enter sleep mode

selected, Low Power Mode will then be enabled.

Enable in SessionEnabling this mode will put the unit to sleep within the selected amount of time of inactivity even if in a remote session.

Device Manager
The Device Manager allows you to do a number of things, including muting or con-trolling the speaker volume, determine what the notebook does when you close the lid, turning the touchpad on or off, and enabling or disabling the webcam.
SpeakersYou can mute the speakers or adjust the speaker volume.

On Lid CloseYou can determine what the notebook does when you close the lid. You can ei-ther: turn off the screen only, enter sleep mode or power down.

Touchpad/Keyboard SettingsYou can lock/unlock the touchpad, which can be useful if you want to use a mouse (or any other pointer device) instead of the touchpad. Locking the touch-pad can also help prevent unwanted cursor movement (that may occur when inadvertently touching the Touchpad) while they are typing.
Keyboard Settings lets you toggle the ability to tap the touchpad to simulate the left button click and use other touchpad gestures to zoom in on the screen (aka tap and gesture).
Locking the TouchpadWith this mode enabled, the unit’s touchpad will be disabled.
To Lock the Touchpad:1. Click the Device Management Submenu > Touchpad/Keyboard Settings.2. Click the box next to Lock Touchpad. When the green ‘check mark’ is se-
lected, the Touchpad will be disabled.

Adjusting Touchpad Sensitivity/Mouse Cursor Speed SettingsYou can adjust the sensitivity of the Cirrus LT’s Touchpad (referred to here as mouse speed cursor settings) for the OSM sessions via Teradici’s Options Menu. You can access this page from the Options > User Settings > Mouse Menu.
You can also configure the mouse cursor speed through the PCoIP host soft-ware. For more information, see the “PCoIP® Host Software for Windows User Guide” (TER1008001).

To change the touchpad sensitivity (aka mouse cursor speed) via the Teradici Power Menu:

Once you have logged in, the Administrator Submenu lets you adjust the administra-tor settings and view the system information.
Admin LoginTo login as an administrator:1. Click the Administrator Submenu.2. Click Admin Login.3. Type in your user ID and password and click Login.
Note: The default user ID is “admin,” and the default password is “password.”

Administrator SettingsThe administrator settings enable you to allow or disallow saving Wi-Fi pass-words and web portals, change the asset tag, change admin and user credentials, and view system info.
Allow Saving Wi-Fi PasswordTo allow or disallow the saving of Wi-Fi passwords:
1. Click the Administrator Submenu.2. Click the box next to Allow Saving Wi-Fi Passwords.
WARNING: Allowing the saving of Wi-Fi passwords will make the system less secure.

Allow Web PortalSince this system has no real browser, the web portal enables you to connect to open or public Wi-Fi networks that require you to accept an agreement or enter in additional information via a web portal, for example, a hotel may require a room number before proceeding onto their Wi-Fi network.
To allow or disallow the web portal:1. Click the Administrator Submenu.2. Click the box next to Allow Web Portal.
WARNING: Allowing web portals will make the system less secure.
Change Admin CredentialsTo change the admin’s name and password:
1. Click the Administrator Submenu.2. Click Change Admin Credentials.3. Type in the new login name, the new password, and lastly retype the new
password.4. Click Accept.

System InfoThe system info shows you the system serial number, the asset tag, the Wi-Fi MAC address, the Ethernet MAC address, the system IP address, the firmware version, and the bios firmware version.
Restore Factory DefaultsTo remove all saved Wi-Fi and user data on the device you can select the “Re-store Default Settings” and this will reset the device back to the way it was when it was shipped from the factory and all previously saved data will be removed. CAUTION, this will remove all previously saved preferred Wi-Fi networks and user account passwords.
Admin Log OffTo log off:
1. Click the Administrator Submenu.2. Click Admin Log Off.

Chapter 5: Opening and Configuring the Teradici Firmware Menu
Note: Teradici will continually revise their firmware. As a result, some screens are sub-ject to change.
To configure the Teradici Firmware: 1. From the Teradici main window, select Options in the upper left hand corner
to open the Teradici Firmware Options menu.
2. Select Configuration, then Session to configure your method of Session Con-nection.

3. Press OK when done with the configuration.4. Press the Connect button to establish your PCoIP session.
Note: You can also Press the Power button to Connect and Disconnect from a remote session. Pressing the button between 1ms to 1 second will disconnect. Pressing and holding the Power button ( for more than 1 second) will power down the unit.
Assigning a Static IP Address
You can only assign a static IP address using the Teradici Firmware.
To assign a static IP address for your notebook:1. Select the Options menu in the upper left hand corner.2. Click Configuration then Network.3. Uncheck the Enable DHCP box.4. Type in the desired IP address.

Chapter 6: Making Remote Connections
You can connect to a remote machine using the Teradici firmware. Basic directions are included below, but you can find more detailed information in the Teradici PCoIP Zero Client and Host Administrator Guide.*

To set up a remote connection between your notebook and a remote machine, you need an enterprise-level NAT device in both the source and destination networks. Otherwise, your remote host would need an internet routable IP address.
To connect to a remote machine:1. Configure the enterprise NAT device to redirect TCP/UDP port 4172 to the
host card.2. From the notebook’s Teradici menus, configure the Direct to Host session
connection type, and enter the IP address of the destination enterprise NAT device.
3. From the host card’s AWI, configure the Direct from Client session connec-tion type.
4. On your firewall or router, allow both TCP and UDP traffic on the ports you have configured in your NAT devices.
5. Start a PCoIP session.

Chapter 7: Using the Cirrus LT Web Interface
There are two purposes to using the Cirrus LT Web Interface. The first is to recover the Admin Password. The second is to update the Firmware.
Downloading and Logging Onto the Cirrus LT Web Interface

Admin Password Recovery
1. If you forget the Cirrus LT admin password, call the NCS Help Desk 1-888-RING-NCS (746-4627), and press Option #4. Make sure you have the Serial Number of the unit in question.
2. The NCS Help Desk will send you a recovery file that you will use. Download the file (be sure to note the location you downloaded, you will need it for later.
3. Determine the IP address of the Cirrus LT that needs the password recovered.4. Open a browser on a PC on the same network as the Cirrus LT.5. Type the IP address plus the port 8081 into the address bar like this, https://<IP
address>:80816. In the example shown below, it is https://192.168.2.126:8081

Updating the Firmware
To update the firmware on your Cirrus LT first you will need the following:• The Cirrus LT• Latest firmware file downloaded from NCS Website• PC/notebook on same network as the Cirrus LT to be updated OR access to the
Cirrus LT Management Console.
You will need to turn on the Cirrus LT and it must be connected to a network either wireless or wired.
Note: It is also recommended that you keep the unit plugged in with the AC Adapter. Failure to do so while updating the firmware could result in lost power due to a low battery; this could render the Cirrus LT unusable. The firmware will not upgrade if the unit is not plugged in and the battery does not have at a least 30% charge.
In order to upgrade the Firmware:1. First you will need to determine the IP Address of the Cirrus LT to be up-
graded. This can be found in two places, either:a. Via the Teradici Options Firmware Menu, where you can access this page
from the Options > Configuration > Network. Select Options in the upper left hand corner to open the Teradici Firmware Options menu.
b. Or via the Cirrus LT OSM, where you can access this page from the Ad-ministrator > System Info > System IP Address.

2. Once you know the IP Address of the Cirrus LT unit to upgrade, you need to then go to the PC that you will be upgrading from. Refer to the previous sec-tions ‘Downloading’ and ‘Logging On’ of this chapter, ‘Chapter 7: Using the Cirrus LT Web Interface’. This will bring up another page where you are able to see the current firmware version on the Cirrus LT.
3. You can then select the firmware file to upload by clicking the “Browse” but-ton. When you download the firmware file from the NCS downloads page it will tell you the firmware version. Compare it to the version already on the Cirrus LT. The new firmware should be newer than the firmware already on the unit. You should never flash an older firmware unless directed to by NCS.
4. Click “Submit” to start the firmware upload process. This can take up to 5 minutes.

5. Note: if you are updating a unit that is connected via wireless, you won’t get as much information back from the unit as you will if it is wired.
NOTE: This progress bar will only be displayed on the LCD of the note-book. If you have the lid closed and external monitors connected to the unit you will not be able to see the firmware progress bar.
On the Cirrus LT you will see this message on the screen during the firm-ware upgrade “UPGRADING FIRMWARE DO NOT TURN OFF”.
The unit will automatically reboot and then be ready for use again.

6. If you would like to confirm that the firmware has been upgraded successfully, you can check the firmware version in the NCS OSM under Administrator > System Information > Firmware Version.

Chapter 8: Accessing the Cirrus LT Management Console
The management console allows you to manage all the Cirrus LT units on your network and do various tasks like uploading firmware to multiple units, send groups of units cer-tain Wi-Fi settings, etc. There is a separate user manual for this Management Console to describe all the various features it has. It is also available for download on our NCS down-loads page.
Installation and Logging In
If you haven’t already downloaded the Management Console, you may do so from:

Chapter 9: How to Load and Unload Certifi-cates on the Cirrus LT
In order to load a certificate onto the Cirrus LT, you will need the following:
• Cirrus LT Firmware 1.1.0 or newer• Mobile Zero Client Management Console 0.26C or newer• Google Chrome Browser – other browsers are supported – results may vary.
The Cirrus LT supports PEM and PK12 file formats of the user certification files. CA certificate files can also be uploaded to the Cirrus LT. It is assumed you already have some basic knowledge of the MC. If you haven’t al-ready installed the and logged in to the Management Console, do so now. Refer to “Chapter 8: Accessing the Cirrus LT Management Console” for more information.
Loading a Certificate
In order to load certificates:1. Navigate to the Control Tab, then locate the Device Discovery Bar.

12. You may also want to verify that the certificate was successfully applied to the selected devices on the Cirrus LT Console. In order to do this, Press <FN+F10> to bring up the Onscreen Menu (OSM) and go to Administrator, and click on Certificates Info, as shown below.

Unloading a Certificate
In order to unload certificates:1. Follow steps #1-6 in the previous section of this chapter, ‘Loading a Certifi-
cate’, to access this screen under the Security Certificates bar. Make sure the devices you want to remove the certificates from have been selected in the Devices tab.
2. You can remove certificates by file name, file type, or typing “*” into the high-lighted field.
3. Click the Remove the certificate type from selected devices button.
4. A pop-up window will then appear, as shown below. Click “OK” to confirm the operation.

5. If the certificate uploads successfully, you will see the following pop-up win-dow. Click “OK”.
6. Go back to the Devices Tab. Under the Last Operation Column, confirm the selected device’s status displays the “remove_certificate successful” message, as shown below.

Chapter 10: Configuring Advanced Wi-Fi Roaming
If you are using Cirrus LT in an environment that has one large Wi-Fi network with many Access Points (APs) and you expect the Cirrus LT to quickly roam from one AP to the next within the same Wi-Fi network (with same SSID) and it isn’t; then you will need to configure Enhanced Roaming on the Cirrus LT. To clarify, this is not meant to enhance roaming from one Wi-Fi network to another with different SSIDs.
The minimum requirements to use Enhanced Roaming include:• Cirrus LT 1.1.0 Firmware• 0.29 Mobile Zero Client Management Console• The latest Teradici Firmware, as of this document it is 4.8.0 (recommended).
Configuring Enhanced Roaming via the OSM Main Menu
To enable Enhanced Roaming from the OSM Main Menu: 1. Click on Network > Wi-Fi.

2. Click the box next to Enhanced Roaming. When the green ‘check mark’ is selected, Enhanced Roaming will be enabled.
To disable Enhanced Roaming from the OSM Main Menu: 1. Click on Network > Wi-Fi.2. Click the box next to Enhanced Roaming. When the gray ‘X’ is selected,
Enhanced Roaming will be disabled.
Note: This is all you can change on the Cirrus LT client side (OSM Menu). To further configure the enhanced roaming settings you will have to use the Mo-bile Zero Client Management Console v0.26 or greater.

Configuring Enhanced Roaming via the Management Console (MC)
To change the roaming aggressiveness setting you will need to first Open the Management Console – It is assumed you already have some basic knowledge of the MC.

7. Scroll to the bottom of the Device Details table and you will see a slider labeled Wi-Fi Aggressiveness.
8. Click the small check mark next to the slider then you can adjust this set-ting to any –RSSI value from -50 to -90 RSSI. This is the value at which the Cirrus LT will scan the network for any other APs out there with a better/higher signal strength. Please know your Wi-Fi network and set this value correctly! Setting this value incorrectly can cause your system to perform very poorly.
9. Sliding this value to the right will make the Wi-Fi roam more aggres-sively; sliding to the left is less aggressive. NCS recommends you set this value between -65 and -80 depending on your Wi-Fi network. Large hos-pitals with hundreds of APs will tend to have better Wi-Fi networks and a setting of -65 may be perfect for them, but a small business with only two APs would be better off possibly with -75. Once you have chosen the value, click Apply Modified Data. This value may need to be adjusted after you have set it if you are not seeing good results.

10. Another parameter when roaming is the number of Wi-Fi channels being used in the Wi-Fi environment. In a typical 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi environment administrators will use channels 1, 6, and 11 since these do not overlap. If you specify the channels to scan and limit the number of channels used in a Wi-Fi environment you will see faster roaming from one AP to another. Cirrus LT will take less time to scan for other APs if it knows which chan-nels to scan. By default when you enable enhanced roaming 1, 6 and 11 are the only channels that are scanned.
11. Scroll to the bottom of the Device Details table and you will see a list la-beled Wi-Fi Roaming Channels. Here you can select the channels to scan for the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency ranges. To select multiple frequencies hold down the <Control> Key.

Chapter 11: Troubleshooting
In the event of a failure, please call NCS Help Desk. The first thing to try to remedy any issue is to restart the machine by pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds to force a hard power cycle.
The quality of end user experience with this product is highly dependent on network bandwidth, latency and jitter. The better the network infrastructure is setup for the PCoIP protocol the better the end user experience will be to users of the Cirrus LT. For guidance on improving the network for the PCoIP protocol please reference the PCoIP Protocol Network Design Checklist – TER1105004. This document can be found at the Teradici website (teradici.com) or the NCS website (ncst.com).
General Troubleshooting Tips
• My keyboard and/or mouse will not work, what can I do?
For external USB keyboards and mice make sure you are plugging them into the correct ports. There are dedicated USB keyboard and mice ports on the right side of the unit. Please ensure you are using the correct ports – these are not interchange-able. The external USB mouse must be plugged into the USB mouse port to work in all configuration menus and with the remote host. The same goes for the USB keyboard.
If for some reason the internal keyboard and/or mouse will not work try opening and closing the OSM by pressing Fn-F10. A lot of times this will reset these devices and will correct the issue.
When switching from OSM to a remote host it is normal for the touchpad and key-board to take a few seconds to reconnect. The remote OS has to re-detect and setup the USB devices. These devices are temporarily disconnected from the remote host when you open the OSM.

• I am unable to use the Smart Card Reader in my VMware Virtual Machine. What should I do?
During the VMWare View Agent installation, you must enable the support for PCoIP Smart card. It is disabled by default – see below screenshot.
• My IP Address does not show up under the OSM/Admin/System Info page.
This happens when there are recent changes to your IP Address. The OSM just reads what the Teradici firmware is reporting and sometimes this communication isn’t instantaneous. Try closing then reopening the OSM.
• When I use an external USB keyboard, I cannot bring up the OnScreen Menu.
Ensure that the external keyboard is plugged into the dedicated USB Keyboard Port and are pressing SHIFT-F10.
• I am not able to update my Firmware.
Ensure you are plugged into AC Power or have at least a 30% battery charge.

• When using the webcam, I get poor video performance. Can I improve this some-how?
Unfortunately, when using the webcam, performance can be limited by the Teradici processor with slower USB connection speeds back to the remote host. USB 1.1 con-nection speeds are used, and therefore this webcam is highly susceptible to network bandwidth. For best results, ensure you are using the latest Teradici Firmware and the Teradici Virtual Audio Driver (available on the NCS or Teradici support web sites). NCS is hopeful that in future releases of Teradici firmware or with new en-hancements to future Teradici processors, this feature will be improved.
• What ports do I need to open in my firewall to ensure that my Cirrus LT will be able to transmit and receive data via the PCoIP protocol?
PCoIP Port: 50002 (TCP/UDP)
• Used for PCoIP in a VMware View 4.0.x and later environment. This port is re-quired for the PCoIP display protocol on the software client and must be open in both inbound and outbound directions.
PCoIP Port: 4172 (TCP/UDP)
• Used for PCoIP in a VMware View 4.5 and later environment. This port is re-quired for the PCoIP display protocol.
• The port 4172 UDP must be open in both inbound and outbound directions.
• The port 4172 TCP must be open in only the inbound direction.
Conflicts Between Teradici and NCS Firmware
Teradici’s firmware has audio, display and other various hardware settings. NCS’s firmware also has some of these same settings. The communication between the two firmware is limited. NCS firmware will not know if you change the display topology in Teradici firmware and then change to a conflicting display configuration in the NCS firmware. Please be careful when making changes in the firmware, and if you run into issues you can always reset the Teradici and/or NCS firmware back to factory defaults to recover from any conflicts that may arise.

Chapter 12: Wake-on-LAN (WOL)
The Wake-on-LAN feature allows you to wake your notebook from a low power state by sending a wake-up network packet to the network from either a third party software or the NCS Cirrus LT management console.
To configure the Wake-on-LAN (WOL) feature:• From another computer, using a browser, enter the IP address of the Cirrus LT in
the address to view the web GUI (AWI).• Click Configuration then Power.• Click the Enable Wake-on-LAN check box, as shown below.
