CIS COMMUNITY NEWS

Balanced can mean many things, such as fairness, justice, or equality. But at its core, it means bringing different aspects of life into harmony. At CIS we strive to help our students balance their lives as they grow into life-long learners and achievers. This is evident in the many activities our students participate in beyond academics - including sports, after-school clubs, internships, and mentoring, as well as partici-pating in service programs. This week is service week at CIS, and all grades are participating in activities to give back to our Cayman community. From beach clean-ups, to help-ing prepare meals for home-bound senior citizens, to working with toddlers, our students are giving their time and energy to

help make Cayman a better place for all. This week, the students have shown us that being a balanced learner at CIS means not only achieving all that we can aca-demically but also giving back in meaningful ways to our community and

the world.

The Healthy School Committee launched a staff salad day to-day. It was very tasty and well received. Staff members re-ceived a lot of positive com-ments as they walked down the hall with heaping plates of sal-

ad from staff and students alike. One of the Healthy Committee’s main goals this year is to encourage CIS students to make healthy choices with CIS staff as an example!

The week of February 6 will be Healthy School Week and there will be many healthy activities for students and staff to partake in—stay tuned to learn more!

Attention MS and HS Students

The Storycrafters will be joining us at CIS for the week of January 18th-

23rd. Jeri and Barry are two renowned storytellers that enjoy sharing

traditional stories from different cultures. They visit schools to share

stories and also to teach students and teachers how to become a story-

teller. Jeri and Barry will be visiting during exam week for secondary

students, so they will be unable to come into the classrooms. They are,

however, available for lunch periods on Wednesday and Thursday for

our middle and high school

students (12-12:30) in the

MPR. We hope you will come

join us!

Email Ms. Ashley if you are interested in participating.

With Blakely M.

What is your background and heritage? I was born in Texas, raised in Colorado but am an island girl at heart. Which countries have you lived in? I have lived in the United States and Cayman. How long have you been livig in the Cayman Islands? I have been on island about a year and a half. How many years have you been at CIS This is my second year here at CIS.

Describe yourself. List at least a few of your best and worst personality traits. I think some of my best traits are that I am open-minded and adventurous. I think my worst trait, and maybe it’s not even bad, but I give people too many chances even though a tiger doesn’t change its stripes. Other than schoolwork and studying, what activities do you enjoy? In my free time, I really love to play beach volleyball and surf. I love being outside and in the water. Describe your most cherished childhood memory. What were you like as a kid? My parents would pull me out of school for my birthday to go snowboarding, usually at Vail. I was kind of a sassy kid to be honest… I’m not sure that has changed though. Which is your favorite place on this earth? Why? Along the Amalfi Coast… If you have seen it, I don’t think there’s a need to explain. You're about to walk the green mile, what do you have as your last meal? Definitely tacos!! What is your favorite quote? Why? “Life is like a box of chocolates… You never know what you’re gonna get.” - I think it really just describes my life. My family has experienced so much but we always find a way to make it through and it actually brings us closer. I think our family is closer than most.
