IntroductionCisco Catalyst 2960-X and Cisco Catalyst 2960-XR series switches are the next generation of the widely deployed access switches. These two platforms help to enable smart operations, application visibility, and Layer 2 and 3 routing services. Designed with operational simplicity and lower total cost of ownership in mind, these stackable switches offer investment protection and up to 80 percent energy savings.
Cisco Catalyst 2960-L series switches are entry-level, fixed configuration, Gigabit Ethernet switches that provide enterprise-class Layer 2 access for branch offices, conventional workspaces, and out-of-wiring closet applications, while simplifying management and reducing operating costs with Cisco EnergyWise® technology. With their slim and noiseless design, these switches increase flexibility and improve experiences by extending LAN beyond the wiring capabilities.
Cisco Catalyst 2960-Plus series switches are fixed configuration, Fast Ethernet switches that can enable reliable and secure Layer-2 operations with lower total cost of ownership for branch offices, conventional workspaces, and infrastructure applications.

Universal Cisco IOS Software imageAll Catalyst 2960-X Series switches use a single Universal Cisco IOS® Software Image for all SKUs. Depending on the switch model, the Cisco IOS image automatically configures the LAN Lite, LAN Base, or IP Lite feature set. LAN Lite models have reduced functionality and scalability for small deployments with basic requirements. The Cisco Catalyst 2960-X Family of switches are available with the LAN Base and LAN Lite feature sets and Catalyst 2960-XR Family of switches are available IP Lite feature sets. Note that each switch model is tied to a specific feature level; LAN Lite cannot be upgraded to LAN Base and LAN Base cannot be upgraded to IP Lite.
All Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Series switches feature a LAN Lite Cisco IOS Software image, providing basic functionality for small-scale deployments.
Cisco Catalyst 2960-Plus Series switches are available with the LAN Base and LAN Lite feature sets. LAN Lite models provide reduced functionality and scalability for small deployments with basic requirements. Note that each switch model is tied to a specific feature level; LAN Lite models cannot be upgraded to the LAN Base feature set.

Catalyst 2960-X switches include a single fixed power supply and are available with either the Cisco IOS LAN Base or LAN Lite feature set. A Catalyst 2960-X series switch has following configuration options:
• Stacking kit (C2960-X-STACK) if applicable (supported on LAN Base switches), which comes with a 50-cm long stacking cable as a default. The user may select other lengths at additional prices
• User must select one power cable • Power clip (PWR-CLP) for cable management • Console cables • Energy management licenses can also be selected

The Catalyst 2960-XR switch models include a field-replaceable modular power supply and can accommodate a second power supply. Catalyst 2960-XR is available only with the Cisco IOS IP Lite feature set. A Catalyst 2960-XR switch has the following configuration options:
• Cisco ONE™ software license (optional)• Secondary power supply for redundancy support• User must select one power cable (country- or region-dependent) if no secondary power supply is
selected; two power cables if a secondary power supply is selected• Stacking kit (C2960-X-STACK) is optional (supported on IP Lite models), which comes with a 50-cm
long stacking cable as a default. The user may select other lengths at additional prices
• Console cables • Energy management licenses can also be selected
