CIT Holidays, is proud of its history and well earned reputation as the leading specialist in supplying Italian Holidays to Australians.

The name CIT is synonymous with “Quality”. Quality; in the standard of our service and in our ever expanding and innovative range of products. In addition, the experience and professionalism of our trained staff, exemplify the ‘quality’ you will come to know and trust in experiencing the wonders of Italy.

In 2012, by popular demand, we have again produced a separate “Italy Escorted Tours” brochure, featuring a large range of quality escorted and boutique regional tours to some of the most popular, as well as more undiscovered regions, of Italy.

The variety of tours range from just 1 day up to 15 days. Many of the tours begin in the major cities of Rome, Florence, Milan, and Venice and others in some of the smaller but no less popular towns of Sorrento , gateway to the Amalfi Coast, and Catania and Palermo in Sicily. Many of the tours can be designed to suit your own personal preferences and, in some cases, integrated to enable the traveller to experience a more diverse range of touring options across Italy.

Our Boutique Regional Tours offer journeys of discovery to the uniquely inviting destinations of Cinque Terre, Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo and Sicily. New in 2012 are our Gastronomic Slow Food self drive tours in Tuscany, Umbria, Piedmont or Sicily. Or, if you prefer to relax onboard a 36 Mega Yacht and let someone else do the driving (or sailing!), we have two new cruises to choose from: “The Romantic Rivieras” departing from Nice and visiting Corsica, Elba Island, Portovenere, Portofino and Monte Carlo or “Cruise Southern Italy & Malta”, departing from Salerno on the Amalfi Coast and including stop offs in Capri, Lipari, Taormina, Siracusa, Malta, Agrigento and Cefalu. This is European touring at its best!

The diverse beauty and lure of Italy with its art, culture, food, fashion and history is endless, and should be experienced by all.

We hope that within this brochure, CIT can help you to discover many of these wondrous treasures of Italy, all with the assistance and knowledge of local professional guides and with the quality assurance of a specialist Italian operator.

Benvenuti in Italia!

In the square of S.Oronzo we can admire the roman amphitheatre from the II century AC and the column of S.Oronzo, 29m high with a copper statue oh the saint on the top. Day 5 Monday: Selva di Fansano – Matera – Sorrento or RomeBuffet breakfast. Departure for Matera that has gained international fame for its “Sassi”. The Sassi originated from a prehistoric (troglodyte) settlement, and are suspected to be some of the first settlements in Italy. The Sassi are houses dug into the tuff rock itself, which is characteristic of Basilicata and Apulia. Many of these “houses” are really only caverns, and the streets in some parts of the Sassi often are located on the rooftops of other houses. One of the benefits of this ancient city, is that with there is a great similarity with the ancient sites in and around Jerusalem. This has caught the eye of film directors and movie studios. Principally due this reason the Sassi were the set of many films, as for example “The Gospel According to St Mathew” (Pasolini,1964), “King David” (Bruce Beresford,1985), “The Passion of the Christ” (Gibson, 2004) and “The Nativity Story” (Hardwicke, 2006). Matera is also a Unesco heritage. Time for a snack and return to Rome or Sorrento. End of the tour and our service.

One of the benefits of this ancient city, is that with there is a great similarity in the look of the Sassi with that of ancient sites in and around Jerusalem. This has caught the eye of film directors and movie studios. Principally due this reason the Sassi were the set of many film, as for example “The Gospel According to St Matthew” (Pasolini,1964), “King David” (Bruce Beresford,1985), The Passion of the Christ” (Gibson, 2004) and “The Nativity Story” (Hardwicke, 2006). Matera is also a Unesco heritage. Time for a snack and return to Rome or Sorrento. End of the tour and of our service.

DURATION: 7 DAYS/6 NIGHTSDEPARTURE: Santa Margherita Ligure at 2.30pm

TOUR FINISHES: La Spezia train station, 10 a.m.

Day 1 Sunday: Arrive in Santa Margherita and transfer to our hotel on your own. Santa Margherita, known for its orange blossoms and beachfront promenade, is a lovely coastal town on the Ligurian Sea approximately twenty miles southeast of Genoa. Please plan to arrive early in the day, as you will be meeting your trip leader and traveling companions at 2:30 p.m. for a warm-up hike to Portofino. A formal group orientation will be held this evening before dinner. Overnight in Santa Margherita for the next two nights. Hotel and dinner included.

Day 2 Monday: After breakfast we begin our first full day of hiking along dramatic seaside cliffs, from Camogli to Portofino. Sights include the 13th century Abbey of San Fruttuoso, nestled below us in a glittering blue bay, and the pastel-colored houses ringing the harbour in Portofino. Our route serves as the perfect scenic introduction to this marvellous region. Hotel, breakfast and dinner included.

Day 3 Tuesday: We transfer by train this morning to the resort town of Levanto, where we’ll buy picnic supplies and start off on our walk to Monterosso, the first of the famed “Cinque Terre” villages. After a shady walk through a pine forest, we exit along a coastal track and descend back down to the sea with the five villages spread out before us. Arrive in Monterosso and check into our hotel, located in the old center of the village. Time for a swim or some shopping this afternoon, before meeting up for a tasting of regional wines and local produce at a nearby agriturismo. Overnight Monterosso. DURATION: 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTSDEPARTURES: Daily from 16 Nov 11 to 31 Oct 12

The Cinque Terre form on of the most unspoilt areas of the Mediterranean and one of the most extended areas in Liguria. They are a kingdom of nature and wild scents maintained as in the past. To visit the Cinque Terre means to visit five villages suspended between seat and earth, clinging on to cliffs and surrounded by green hills; it means to know the history of whom, for centuries, has fought against difficult land but it also means to taste the results of this millenarian struggle and in particular wine and produce.

Visit these villages means to learn about the culture of the dry-stone walls and of the vineyard, of the fisherman and of their fishing nets, of the steep valleys and of their paths. Who visits the Cinque Terre can choose between a dive in the sea or a hike on the hills, between a walk in the narrow alleys called “carruggi: or a boat trip, a pilgrimage to a sanctuary or a seafood lunch.
