At San JacintoCollege, we teach the latest in game design and programming, simulation,level design, engine development, tool building, and multimediaprogramming. You’ll get your hands on the latest design applications andgame engines, including multi-player and multimedia audio and videotools. Are you up to the challenge?

San Jacinto College’s Simulation and Gaming Technology program:

• Is designed for students who are interested in advancedprogramming areas, such as simulations, game design, gameprogramming, level design, engine development tool building, andmultimedia programming;

• Includes in-depth hands-on training with industry standardapplications and game engines, as well as multi-player andmultimedia (including audio and video) programming, and two-semester project classes where students design and implement theirown games or simulations; and

• Offers a simulation and game programming certificate program sostudents can enhance their training beyond the basic applicationprogramming certificate or Associate of Applied Science (AAS)degree.

InformationThe Computer Information Technology program is designed primarily forstudents seeking an Occupational Certificate, Certificate of Technology,or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Students can expect tocomplete most CIT certificates in three semesters and AAS degreesin as few as four semesters. For those students who have alreadyfulfilled general education requirements, it may be possible to finishdegree course work even sooner. It is generally recommended thatstudents complete the 21 semester credit hour Computer InformationTechnology (CIT) foundations Occupational Certificate before continuinginto a Certificate of Technology or AAS degree. Most courses in thisOccupational Certificate will apply toward the other CIT certificates andAAS degrees.

The CIT curriculum provides the graduate with the knowledge andin-demand applied technical skills needed to enter computer-relatedoccupations in the business/industry job market. Certificates and AASdegrees are available in the following areas: Applications Programming,Desktop Support and Network Administration, Information TechnologyCyber Security, Simulation and Game Design, Network AdministrationCisco, and Web Applications Development.

• The Applications Programming Specialty is for students interestedin developing computer programs (designing, coding, testing, anddebugging), both stand-alone and web-based, in languages suchas C++ and Java as well as gaining skills in the use of Python andSQL. Electives may include courses in C#, Game Design, JavaScript,and mobile app programming. Emphasis is placed on applying thetechniques and procedures learned in providing software solutionsfor both business-related and practical computer problems that arerobust, error-free, and easy to use.

• In Desktop Support and Microsoft Network Administration, a studentcan choose between a track with emphasis on computer hardware(installing, maintaining, repairing, and upgrading) and softwaresupport (installing and configuring) or one with focus on installing,

configuring, and maintaining computer networks. This program ofstudy prepares students for CompTIA’s A+ and Network+ exams aswell as other widely recognized industry certifications. Support andnetwork graduates are invaluable in keeping businesses runningsmoothly.

• The Simulation and Game Design program is designed for studentswho are interested in advanced programming areas, as in simulations,game programming, program testing, or multimedia programming.

• In the Network Administration Cisco Specialty, emphasis is on thedesign, implementation, and administration of local and wide-arearouter networks.

• The Web Applications Development program prepares studentsfor entry-level positions in website design, web-based applicationsdevelopment, and website administration.

• The CIT Industry Certification program is intended for students withindustry experience in one or more of the following areas of study:beginning network administration, Cisco, and advanced informationtechnology security. These certificates enable students tosupplement their current job skills and obtain industry certifications,if desired. Each industry certificate consists of only the coursesrequired to obtain a specific certification.

Note for transfer students: Due to variations in requirements at four-year colleges and universities, students desiring a bachelor’s degreein Computer Science are strongly advised to consult a CIT DepartmentChair at San Jacinto College and at the institution to which they wish totransfer. This communication regarding transfer degree plans with bothcomputer department heads will help to ensure the transition process isas smooth as possible.
