+Scholarship in the Digital Age:

The Internet made a lot of things very simple. Bibliographies aren't among them. J. Kronholz

Kronholz J. Bibliography mess: the Internet wreaks havoc with the form: how do you cite a Web page? that's a matter of debate; arguing over a period. Wall Street Journal. May 2, 2002:A1, A6. +Metadata?

Often explained as, “data about data” although there are people that bicker about this definition.

For our purposes, you may think of it as an abstraction of useful descriptive content taken from the source of that content.

Some examples of possible metadata elements: Author Date of Publication Title of Document Subject Terms

+A View of Metadata You Are Probably Already Familiar With:

The problem with this type of presentation of metadata is that it

does not meet the needs of scholarly communication. That is one of the

problems citation managers are meant to solve.

+A View of Metadata Through A Citation Manager:

The citation manager Provides a view of metadata tailored to

the needs of scholarly researchers and writers.

+Downloading Metadata for PDFsZotero will attempt to

retrieve metadata for your files from Google Scholar using the article’s DOI. (note that the file must

have OCRed text.)

Once the data is retrieved, the PDF will be associated with the article’s author, title, etc. in your Zotero

library.
