Request for Proposal The Service-Learning Program (SLP) is currently seeking six full-time IUB faculty members to participate in Project Engage, a summer course development program beginning in 2013. Project Engage The purpose of Project Engage is to promote the creation of new high quality service-learning courses in response to the Enriching Educational Experiences in the Shared Goals section of the IUB General Education Requirements. The program is composed of three stages: Stage I: Introduction to Service-Learning and the Community May 13 – 17, 2013 Project Engage Fellows will attend a half-day, week-long workshop where they will explore the theory and practice of service- learning; and they will visit community partner agencies in the greater Bloomington area to learn more about the agencies, service populations and community needs. Stage II: Developing a Pedagogically Sound Service-Learning Course Summer, 2013 Working closely with community partners, their respective mentors and the Director of the SLP, fellows will conceive and plan integration of a service-learning component in an existing course or develop a new service-learning course. Fellows will schedule meetings individually with their faculty mentor, agency representatives and the Director of SLP to work on their course design. Stage III: Presentation of Course Syllabi August 12 – 14, 2013 Fellows will convene on three half days to share final drafts of their annotated syllabus and their plans for departmental presentations. As a result of this program, Project Engage Fellows will have1) developed a new service-learning course which would be taught once before the year

2015 and twice between the years 2015 and 2020,2) written an annotated syllabus of a new service-learning course, and 3) demonstrated plans to present information on service-learning and their course within

their department.

Project Engage Fellows will receive a $2,500 award to assist with the development and implementation of their service-learning curricula.
