Abuja is the capital city of Nigeria, located in the centre of the countryand part of the Federal Capital Territory. As a new and planned city itwas built in the 1980s and contains a much smaller and more affluent
population than rival Lagos. It is widely regarded as one of the best purpose-built cities in Africa as well as being one of the wealthiest and most expensive.
As a new city, much of it is still in development. There are not many opportunities for entertainment or cultural excitement. However, it is situated inan area of distinct natural beauty. The dominant feature on the landscape is Aso Rock, a 400-metre high outcrop on the city’s outskirts caused by ancientwater erosion, which looms behind the attractive Government buildings. Abujais often used as a jumping off point for exploring the rest of the country.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United ArabEmirates. More like an independent city-state than a province, it isthe most modern and progressive emirate in the UAE.
A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies (by regional standards), and excellent tourist amenities.Just five hours from Europe and three hours from most parts of the MiddleEast, the Near East, and the sub-continent of India, Dubai makes a greatshort break for shopping, fine dining and sporting events. It is a city ofsuperlatives: for the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest, Dubai is the destination.

Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city. Originally known as Eko, it was ruled bykings that were eventually conquered by neighbouring city Benin.Since then, Portuguese and British colonies have both laid claims to
the city and the surrounding region, using it as the centre of their spice andmetals trade.
Lagos still serves as the main area of activity today due to its convenientlocation and cosmopolitan culture. Although most of the businesses arelocated on the islands, the majority of the population lives on the mainland. There are lots of great places to eat in Lagos – make sure to try the traditionalpepper soup. Unless you are in a supermarket or restaurant with fixed prices, you will be expected to negotiate the price you pay for an item, so be prepared to haggle.

Tel Aviv is the second largest city in Israel after Jerusalem. It is locatedon the Mediterranean coast, about 60 km north-west of Jerusalem andsome 100 km south of Haifa. The official name is Tel Aviv-Yafo and
reflects the fact that the city has grown beside (and absorbed) the ancientport city of Yafo.
Tel Aviv is a rapidly growing city in the midst of an exciting transitionfrom medium-sized urban centre to bustling international metropolis. It's the city that many Israelis think of as their New York. While the comparison was once a stretch – and indeed Tel Aviv is still a fraction ofNew York’s size – Tel Aviv's booming population, energy, edginess and 24-hour life give the city a cosmopolitan flair comparable to few othercities in this part of the world.

Park, one of the largest urban parks in the world. There are great places toshop in Lisbon, from markets to shopping centres. Don’t miss the market atCampo de Santa Clara – it is one of the oldest markets in Lisbon and openevery Tuesday and Saturday. This city is known for its nightlife – consideredto be amongst the best in Europe. The night in Lisbon starts at sunset andgoes on until dawn. Lisbon’s bars, theatres and discos add spice to the cityafter dark.

Milan may not be Italy’s capital but it is the financial centre, home toItaly’s stock exchange. The city has been rebuilt many times, which means it has lost some of its medieval charm compared with
other Italian cities, but what Milan lacks architecturally it makes up for inother ways.
Not only is Milan the financial centre it is also the fashion centre of Italy.Milan’s designer clothes and shops are a major attraction for the more fashion-conscious tourists. Sit outside a cafe by the Duomo and admire the well-dressed world go by, or enjoy the views across the city and themountains. If you want a taste of the Italian lifestyle then there is no betterplace to visit than Milan.

It is hard to say what you will find most breathtaking about the EternalCity – from the opulence of the Vatican, to the timelessness of the Forum. For thousands of years tourists, merchants and pilgrims have wended
their way towards the town on the seven hills of the river Tiber. As they say,Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it has unarguably one of the richest historiesof any city on earth.
As a religious and cultural centre, it has survived turbulent centuries ofaristocratic and papal rivalries, upheaval and all the while incorporating someof the finest architecture. Rome is far from being just a museum – it is a living city, which makes it an appealing destination for all who visit.

under the name of ‘Skupi’ was prized for its strategic location, in a longvalley between two hills, situated on the banks of the Vardar River, a vitaltrade route.
Many people who visit Skopje are put off by the concrete buildings, but if you look deeper you’ll will find excellent examples of Ottomanarchitecture and more. Most of the sights in Skopje are situated in andaround the old bazaar.

The Maltese capital Valetta was founded by the Knights Order of St Johnof Jerusalem, in 1568. They ruled from here for two and a halfcenturies and created a late Renaissance city as a bulwark against
Ottoman incursion. The entire city is a world heritage site and visiting here is like visiting an open air museum.
Dotted with quaint cafes and wine bars, the city is today one of Malta’smain tourist attractions, hosting among others, the majestic St John’s Co- Cathedral, the imposing bastions and a treasure of priceless paintings. It also provides a stunning snapshot of Malta’s Grand Harbour, oftendescribed as the most beautiful in the Mediterranean.

Today’s Zagreb has grown out of two medieval settlements, Kaptol andGradec, that for centuries developed independently on neighbouring hills. Now the capital city of Croatia is divided into three parts: the thousand-
year-old Gornji grad (upper town) which contains the Presidential Palace, thehistoric church of St.Mark's, the Croatian parliament, and museums and galleries which are all set in cobbled streets lit by gas lamps; the 19th centuryDonji grad (lower town) with its shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres, parks; and themodern post-war Novi Zagreb (new Zagreb) which is full of high-rise buildings.
Zagreb is called a city of museums as there are more of them per square metrethan any other city in the world. But this doesn’t mean that there is nothing elsefor you to do. One of the many pleasures that the Zagrebcani (the people ofZagreb) enjoy is sitting in one of the numerous cafes watching the world go by.

Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay and by far the biggest city. It is located at the east bank of the Rio Paraguay at the Bay of Asuncion. The city is an appealing mix of old and new, of poor and rich, of city
and countryside. There are many beautiful colonial buildings, and interestingold buildings in general, which are either in excellent condition or have heavily deteriorated, often just next to each other.
Unlike many of its South American neighbours, Paraguay is a fairly safe destination and has remained a comparatively stable over the lastdecade. While it may not boast all the recognition and acclaim its South American neighbours receive, this inconspicuous city has plenty to charm its visitors with.
