REGULAR SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING7:00 p.m. – Little Theater at BHS

Minutes

A. Call to Order: Mayor Casavant called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

B. Roll Call: Roll Call: Roll Call: Mayor Casavant, Dennis Anglea, Crystal Blais, Tony Michaud, Lisa Vadnais, & Washima Fairoz. Also in Attendance: Jeremy Ray, Chris Indorf. Absent: Brianna Gilbert Heather Mills, Karen Ruel & Cassie Riley.

C. Pledge of Allegiance: Mayor Casavant led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.

D. Adjustments to the Agenda: None

E. Consideration of Minutes: Mr. Anglea moved and Mr. Michaud seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the minutes of 3/28/17.

F. Student Rep Reports:Ms. Fairoz reported on: BHS musical production “Totally Modern Milly”; Congratulations to Lisa Berry for winning Secretary of the Year.

G. Superintendent’s Report:Mr. Ray reported on the following: Thanks to the JD Scholarship Foundation who pledged $10,000 for a new Tiger Gym speaker system. JFK and BRCOT State Applications were delivered to the State today. Thanks go out to Mr. Indorf, Ms.

Chasse, Ms. Gauvin, Ms. Bonneau, Ms. Nadeau, Mr. Dutremble, Mr. Radding and a host of others who worked together to make this happen.

Thanks were given to students and teachers for the past two weeks having to stay 1hr later each day. BPS staff were recognized and thanked for hosting a fund raiser to help a student in need, raising close to

$9,000 for the family. The student applicant pool for the STEM Academy is high for next year. The Sp Ed building between BMS and BIS is coming along nicely. The Field Use Study Report was emailed to committee members. The report indicates that the bleachers at

Waterhouse Field are now closed. Activities slotted for this field will have to take place elsewhere. Mr. Walton reached out to UNE, who has offered their field for Lacrosse for all BHS/BMS teams at no cost. Also, graduation location will be changed.

H. Committee Reports:Finance/Building & Grounds – Mr. Anglea indicated the next meeting is 4/25/17.

Curriculum – Mr. Indorf indicated the two groups have met a couple of times, but had to be rescheduled recently due to the extend school days.

Policy – Mr. Michaud indicated the committee met this evening. They discussed policies on technology, overnight field trips, and personnel/school records retention.

I. Old Business: Consideration: Maine Model United Nations Overnight Trip Request, BHS (2nd reading)Mr. Anglea moved and Mr. Michaud seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the above trip request.

J. New Business: Public participation opportunity after each item listed below (3 minutes per item)1. Presentation/Consideration: Math in Focus K-5 PilotMs. Kenney, BIS Principal, and staff members provided a power point overview on the Math in Focus pilot program. (See document in packet)

Mr. Anglea moved and Ms. Blais seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the Math in Focus program.

2. Presentation: STEM Academy Student Transition from BMS to BHSMandy Cyr provided a power point overview on the STEM Academy student transition from BMS to BHS regarding curriculum. (See document in packet)

3. Consideration: OM World Finals Overnight Trip Request, BHS (1st reading)Mr. Anglea moved and Mr. Michaud seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the above trip request.

4. Consideration: 2017-18 School Calendar (1st reading)Mr. Anglea moved and Mr. Michaud seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the 2017-18 school calendar.

5. Consideration: (.5) K-5 Personalized Learning & Instructional Support Leader Job Description(grant funded)

Mr. Anglea moved and Ms. Blais seconded, unanimous vote, to approve the above job description.
