CHASKA PARK BOARD
Dear Chaska Residents, Employees and Visitors,
I want to start by saying “thank you” to all of you that participate in parks and recreation; whether youparticipate in our programs, have a membership to one of our facilities, attend community eventsand/or utilize our parks and trails, it is a pleasure to serve you.
We have a lot of exciting things happening in parks and recreation. Here are some of them:
• We have a committee of 20 people with varying backgrounds working together to help Chaskabecome a designated Bicycle Friendly Community to provide a safe means for more people to bikeboth recreationally and as a form of transportation.
• We will be developing a long-range vision for the Community Center based on feedback from the community.
• We will begin planning for a new 55-acre community park in the Southwest Chaska area
• The Chaska Curling & Event Center will be hosting a US Mixed Doubles Olympic Trial play-inevent August 20–23. The winner will go to the Olympic Trials and receive coaching and funding.
Get outside as often as you can this summer and spend time in our beautiful parks and out on the 70 miles of trails we have in Chaska…the benefits are numerous!
I look forward to meeting more of you out in the community, however, feel free to contact me viaphone or email. My number is (952) 227-7758 and my email is [email protected]
Sincerely,
Marshall GrangeParks and Recreation Director

Preschool Artwork:
TREKS & TRAILS
We will be showcasing artwork done by the fourand five-year-old preschoolers at Treks and
Trails Preschool located here at the CCC. See whatvivid imaginations these preschoolers have to offer.
This diverse body of original work is created by Chaska High School students whohave participated in three consecutive levels of an art discipline of their choosing.
At CHS, students can elect to study Ceramics, Design & Digital Art, Digital Photography,Drawing & Painting, and Global Arts & Jewelry. In each course, they learn content-specific techniques while exploring and developing artistic concepts. Each student within the Advanced level of these courses selected their favorite artwork that they have created during high school. Their goal is to receive peer and community feedback to help inform and refine their artistic process. Our school, art department, and artstudents look forward to sharing these creative works with the public!

The exhibit was inspired by the acclaimed book Green Card Youth Voices:Immigration Stories from a Minneapolis High School. It includes stories of
lost loved ones, life in refugee camps, walks though deserts, and first snowfalls. These young peoples’reasons for immigrating arevast, but a common threadunites them; despitetremendous tribulation, theycontinue to work towardfutures of which they dream.

CHASKA CURLING CENTER
The leagues look fun, how do I get involved? The spring and summer is a great time to get involved in curling. We areone of only a few facilities in the country that offer year-round ice. Springand summer leagues are seven weeks long and the cost is cheaper as ourmemberships are pro-rated. It is not a big time commitment as the seasonis shorter than that of our winter leagues. We would ask that new curlersparticipate in a beginner league. Our open leagues will have moreexperienced curlers looking for more competitive games.
This looks like a fun activity for my coworkers. Do you offer company parties? We host corporate team-building curling lessons almost every day. Thebest times to book are Monday–Friday during the early afternoon. Weprovide a quick off-ice lesson on the game including rules and scoring andthen work with you on the ice. Your group will have a great time learningabout and playing the game. No curling experience is needed. We haveinstructors on the ice the entire time to make sure you are having a greattime. Catering options are available through the Crooked Pint and meetingspace is available in our 40 person lounge or 300 seat Event Center.
Q&AHow do I try curling? A great way to get involved with curling would be a learn tocurl class. These two hour classes cover rules, etiquette, sweeping, and on-ice practice of proper delivery andsweeping techniques. We ask that those new to the gameparticipate in a learn to curl class before using the ice orplaying in leagues. Another option is a private group orcompany rental. Visit our corporate/group information formore information.
Is this like bowling, can we rent a sheet of ice?Curling ice and equipment is very specialized and expensive.Damage to the ice, hacks, and rocks can and does happenwhen inexperienced curlers step on the ice. On top of that,we don’t want people going out on the ice and getting hurt.We ask that people with no curling experience participate ina learn to curl class or a group lesson before using ourpractice ice. It will make for a much more enjoyableexperience.
