Add an autumnal touch to an open bookcase with silk fall leaves—found at local craft store.

Pumpkins on ped-estals & pennant banners made from fall themed scrap-book paper or fab-ric.

Book pages, framed silhouettes, & a colorful pennant banner make an inexpensive impact .

Cheese cloth, skulls, a black wreath, & decora-tive moss create a spook-tacular dis-play.

lowing month at 8:00 AM.

The only difference is that instead of the green post-cards, there will be full size bills. Also there will be no blue reminder bill. The full sized bill that you receive on the third Thursday of every month will be it.

Hopefully using the full sized bills, there will be less chance of misplacement along the way to the recipient or by the recipient.

Of course you can call any-time and we would love to help you with your water questions! 243-2670

As of October the Water Department will have a new system for water bills.

The water bills will still be billed on the third Thursday of every month and due the first Tuesday of the follow-ing month. Shut off will remain the same as well; the second Tuesday of the fol-

It was a volatile time in our country’s history. A time full of change and uncertainty. If any-thing remains the same—change.

People change, mindsets change and fifty years ago our country was in the middle of a big change.

1963—Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” Speech in August in Washington

D.C. and lead many Civil Rights marches while peacefully pro-testing segregation.

President Kennedy was assassi-nated on November 22 in Dallas. President Kennedy started the Peace Corps two years earlier.

Beatle mania was in it’s early stages with their first album “Please, Please Me.” Bob Dylan walked off the Ed Sullivan show.

Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary closes off of the California coast.

Popular Films were Cleopatra, The Longest Day, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Johnny Depp and Michael Jor-dan were born this year.

With all the change we have achieved there’s still a ways to go. It is and always will be our one constant.

October 8th because she forgot that the birthday of her boss, who was her father, was actually on the 16th. In 1962 Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registra-tion and officially pro-claimed the day.

National Boss’ Day is October 16th every year!

Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was work-ing as a secretary in Deerfield, IL and chose

If you want to prune in fall, wait until trees drop their leaves and are dormant—

usually October or Novem-ber. After leaf drop, you can see the tree’s structure and identify disease and insect problems more easily. Dor-mancy (especially late winter to early spring) is also a good time to prune evergreens because vigorous spring growth will hide pruning wounds.

Fall is a great time to make sure your trees and shrubs are not in anyone’s way, line of sight, or decaying.

The City Ordinance asks the property owners to have shrubs no taller than four feet if located next to the street, alley, or sidewalk. There shall be a clear space of four-

GET INVOLVED IN YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Concordia City Commission intends to involve as many quali-fied citizens as possible in the governing process.

If you are interested in serving the community by becoming a member of one of these boards, commissions or committees, you are asked to fill out a short Ex-pression of Interest Form. To be considered for any appointments, return a completed Expression of Interest Form to the City Clerk’s Office.

All members of boards, commis-sions and committees serve with-out pay – out of a concern for the public good.
