Business Engagement Mayor Site Visits and Roundtables

Mayor Nan Whaley is committed to cultivating a business friendly Dayton. Monthly meets with business owner and leaders to discuss ways to improve the business climate in Dayton and the Dayton Region.

Business Retention and Expansion Visits Economic Development Staff coordinate one-on-one site visits with

Dayton companies to show appreciation for the business, identify immediate needs, future plans, and measure the City’s service delivery through a business survey process.

Business First! A regional resource referral program designed to allow the City to

easily provide referrals to partner agencies throughout the community, who can offer additional resources to companies at little or no cost.

Incentives Programs• Small Business Advocate/One-Stop Center Permitting

Assistance: • Collaborative efforts will assure that all necessary zoning,

building, environmental, and related permits are processed in a coordinated, business-friendly manner.

• Site Selection Assistance: • Using a network of local organizations, technical assistance is

available to help identify commercial sites and building opportunities for new business development projects.

• Dayton Economic Attraction Program [DEAP]: • This program provides an annual grant payment for 3 years to

companies who create five or more new full-time jobs in the downtown area or within Dayton’s targeted industry clusters. The grant is based on payroll taxes for the net new jobs.

Incentives Programs• Development Fund: • City grant funding is available to qualified businesses engaged in

projects resulting in the expansion or relocation of an existing company and creating jobs. The fund provides “gap” financing to reduce the amount of equity needed to complete an otherwise fully-financed project.

• West Dayton Development Trust Fund: • City grant funding is available to qualified businesses engaged in

projects resulting in the redevelopment of the Greater West Dayton geography. Like the Development Fund this program helps to reduce the amount of equity needed to complete an otherwise fully-financed project.

• Property Tax Exemptions: • Through the Enterprise Zone (EZ), Community Reinvestment Area

(CRA) and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) programs, the City can elect to abate a portion of property taxes owed by a company following new construction. Property taxes may be abated up to 100% for 15 years.
