CITY OF HOWELL COMMUNITY ECONOMIC PROFILE Rail: CSX Railroad operates two (2) main lines through the City of Howell. Air: No major airports; Spencer J. Hardy Livingston County Airport is located in Howell Township approximately 3 miles away from the City Hall. Highway: While there are no major highway through the City, Highland Road and Grand River Avenue are both heavily travelled routes that lead to I-96.

Bus: LETS (Livingston Essential Transportation Service) will travel anywhere in the Township or County with advance notice. Call 517-546-6600 for rates and scheduling information.

Public Facilities: The City Hall is located at 611 E. Grand River Avenue and houses the majority of the City departments including the police department that offers exclusive service to city residents with street patrol, detective, school resource, and bike patrol. The Howell Fire Authority is responsible for the City’s fire needs as well as the five (5) surrounding townships of Cohoctah, Deerfield, Genoa, Howell, Marion, and Oceola. Hospitals and Clinics: St. Joseph Mercy Livingston located in Howell, MI. Higher Education: Cleary University located in Howell, MI. Public Schools: The Howell School District provides K-12 education facilities to most of the school age children in the City of Howell. Parochial Schools: There are parochial/private schools available in the City. Recreational / Cultural Opportunities: The City’s desire for recreation as an integral part of its master plan is demonstrated with over 96 acres of parks and facilities within the City of Howell. Among the most prominent is the Howell City Park with over 22 acres of open space. The park offers picnic tables, grills, shelters, and playgrounds, beaches on Thompson Lake, ball/open fields, and concessions. The Barnard Community Center and the Paul Bennett Recreation Center offer ball fields, paths, concessions, tennis, basketball, and senior centers. The Paul Bennett Recreation Center located at 925 W. Grand River Avenue currently serves as the headquarters for the Howell Area Parks and Recreation Department. Weekday preschool and community education classes are held at the center, while the facility also houses a weekday senior center and provides a location for craft shows, meetings, dances, and parties.

McPherson Industrial Park: The 242 acre McPherson Industrial Park is located off of Highlander Way in the City of Howell. As the largest industrial park in the immediate area, it is home to Pepsi Bottling Company along with other international recognized brands. The park has access to I-96 from Grand River Avenue in the City and boasts a full range of utilities including gas, water, sewer, and electric.
