The Desert Ridge/Kierland employment center provides access to some of the region’s most highly educatedand skilled workers. Within a 20 minute commute shed, 32 percent of the adult population has some college education and an additional 42 percent have a bachelor’s or advanced degree. Approximately 28percent of the workers within this 20 minute commute shed are in managerial, professional or science andengineering occupations.1 There are also high concentrations of workers in sales, healthcare and adminis-trative support occupations.

Housing and Amenities
The beauty of the Sonoran Desert is the backdrop forthe Desert Ridge master-planned community. This5,700-acre development consists of residentialneighborhoods, a community shopping area, world-class amenities, recreational facilities and a high-tech business park. The 322-acre commercial core ofthe community features the Desert RidgeMarketplace, which offers an exciting mix of shopping, dining and entertainment options as wellas cultural, office and municipal facilities.
The J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa is thelargest in the metro area with approximately200,000 square feet of meeting space, a 950-roomhotel, 10 restaurants, two 18-hole golf courses, agolf school, swimming pools with interconnectingwaterways, an eight-court tennis pavilion and a28,000 square foot spa.
The Kierland master-planned community bringstogether a cohesive mix of upscale residential,office, commercial and recreational uses. Residentialdevelopment in Kierland ranges from semi-customhomes, to luxury town homes and condominiums tomore traditional single-family neighborhoods.Amenities offered by the Kierland developmentinclude luxury resort accommodations, golf, trails,parks and private jet access at the nearby Scottsdale Airport.
The 750-room Westin Kierland Resort includes183,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meetingspace, restaurants and a spa, overlooking a 27-holegolf course. The Kierland Commons retail centerincludes upscale shops and restaurants and is withinwalking distance of the Westin Kierland Resort.
The 268-bed Mayo Clinic Hospital is the first hospi-tal designed and built by the renowned Mayo Clinicand is also located in the employment center.
Infrastructure
The Loop 101 freeway and State Route 51 serve the DesertRidge/Kierland area. The Loop 101 freeway runs south to connect tonortheast Phoenix and the East Valley, and to the west connecting to Interstate 17 and the West Valley. State Route 51 connects this areadirectly to central Phoenix.
The Desert Ridge area is well served by several telecommunicationsproviders with advanced fiber optic networks in place to provideenhanced services with excellent reliability. Advanced fiber optic networks in the area enable these providers to offer a full spectrum ofhigh-speed data services such as complete digital infrastructure, T-1(DS1) lines, T-3 (DS3) lines, self-healing fiber ring architecture andhigh-speed data communications.
The regional electric power provider, Arizona Public Service, hasmade an investment in an advanced network system that providesmultiple redundant feeds from various substations to ensure the high-est possible level of reliability.
