2008-2009 ASCE
ELECTIONS APRIL 30, 2008
We are approaching the last two months of the ASCE 2007-2008 term. I want
to thank and congratulate all of the ASCE members and officers that have contributed to the success of many well prepared branch luncheons, conferences, Section newsletters, and activities. Also, thank you for your participation in the various committees that were organized this past year to provide ASCE awards, scholarships, SEAU structural licensing bill review, etc. All the work that has been accomplished comes from volunteers. When all of us put in a little bit of time, big things happen. The success in all the Branches and Section would not be possible without YOU. This month’s newsletter contains a list of ASCE members that are running for
branch or section officer positions for the 2008-2009 term. I want to thank them for their desire to be part of and improve the ASCE Utah Section. Please review the candidate biographies and take the time to vote and submit the attached ballot to Dennis Pay (fax: (801) 483-6030 or e-mail: [email protected]) no later than April 30, 2008. Ballots may also be turned in to the branch secretary/treasurer at your monthly branch luncheon in April. We are planning on having the Annual ASCE Utah Section Meeting on May 23, 2008 at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Be sure to put this date on your calendars for an exciting meeting from the Section. We are planning on having Blaine Leonard, P.E., F.ASCE speak to us about “The Future of Engineering: Civil Engineering in 2025”. Blaine is a member of the Utah Section, is a past President of the Section, a past Director from District 11, a past Zone IV Vice President, and is currently a candidate for the ASCE President-Elect office at the national level. We are very fortunate to have him speak to us. We are also working on the details on seeing the construction of the Downtown Revitalization Project by the LDS church a block away from the Joseph Smith Memorial Building as part of the traditional tour following the Section meeting and lunch. More details will be coming in next month’s Civil Source.
A special thanks to all those who participated in this year’s Construction Career Days!
