Situated in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains in Newcastle, Co. Down, Narnia is a unique retreat for young people diagnosed with cancer and their siblings, as well as children whose parents have been diagnosed with cancer, and those children who have tragically been bereaved. Since 2006 Narnia has hosted over 258 residential breaks and there have been a staggering 5,200 sleepovers.

Laura O’Hare Cancer Support Specialist

“Our residentials provide a rare and valuable opportunity to reduce the isolation they feel by bringing young people together, encouraging and motivating them and giving them the chance to make lasting friendships. In just a weekend, the transformation we see in children is amazing.”

Narnia Log Cabin

“Being here is like the books, they go to Narnia to escape the war and that’s what it feels like. You come here and forget about being sick. You can talk to people who have the same life experience. It’s like stepping into the wardrobe.”

How We Help

At Cancer Fund for Children we connect, empower and strengthen children and young people so they do not have to face cancer alone. Cancer, and how it affects children and their families, will not stop during the coronavirus crisis and with your continued support we will be here for families during the worst, as well as the best of times. The children and young people we support are particularly vulnerable and cancer will continue to devastate the lives of local families. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic we will continue to accept referrals for support. Our team of Cancer Support Specialists will continue to deliver individual and group support to children and young people by phone and online helping to reduce isolation, respond to any worries they may have and crucially connect them with other young people experiencing cancer. Our team will also deliver onlinevideos providing advice and guidance to families on how to navigate isolation and manage anxiety and stress during these uncertain times. We know this is a difficult time for everyone right now – we are in uncharted territory and there is no-one who has not been impacted by this crisis. If you feel you can donate to us at all, you can donate online at cancerfundforchildren.com.

Thank you for your support, your generosity and for caring.
