Prepared for Class XB KV NO3 Delhi Cantt-10

SUSTAINABLEMANAGEMENT

?

It is a type of management of natural resources which encourages the utilization of resources that meet current basic needs, while preserving the resources for the needs of future generations.

Q)Write two advantages of sustainable management of natural resources. Out of the two-reuse and recycle- which is better and why?

●Two advantages of sustainable management are:-

i)Provide the resources for the present generation

ii) Preserve the resources for the future generation as well.

Reuse is better than recycling because it does not involve the use of energy.

Q) List two advantages associated with water harvesting at the community level.

• Advantages associated with water harvesting at community level are:

i) Recharge ground water

ii) Mitigates floods and droughts

iii) Brings rivers and wells back to life and makes more water available for use.

Q ) Differentiate between biodegradable and non-biodegradable substances with the help of one example each. List two changes in habit that people must adopt to dispose non- biodegradable waste, for saving the environment,

Biodegradable substances- Wastes produced through living ones are biodegradable.Examples: peels of fruits and vegetables, egg shells, paper, left over food

Non-biodegradable substances-Wastes produced from non livings are non-biodegradable.

Classification of Natural Resources

Resources are limited and with the increasing human population, demand is increasing at exponential rate.

While extracting or using the resources, environment is damaged

Ways to save Resources

Forest and

Wildlife

Dams

• Ensure storage of adequate water not just for irrigation.

• Canal systems from these dams can transfer large amounts of water to large distances.

• Example-Tehri dam on river Ganga

The common methods of water harvesting are :

Coal and Petroleum

MELTING OF POLAR ICE RISE IN SEA LEVELS
