High Line
Linear Park in USA
(High Line, New
York City)• The High Line
is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side.
• This linear park is inspired by another linear park, which is Promenade Plantee that is situated in Paris, France.
• The park has 9 entrances. 5 of which, are accessible to people with disabilities.
DAY
NIGHT
• The High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement.
• It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains away from the streets of Manhattan's largest industrial district.
• In the year 1851-1929, men on horses (West Side Cowboys) ride in front of trains waving red flags because of the many accidents between freight trains and street-level traffic.
• Because of that, 10th avenue where the park is located became known as Death Avenue.
