We created our Litigation Support Program to remove the mystery of litigation and to prepare our clients for what they’ll encounter during the legal process.

It’s important to maintain your physical health and emotional well-being during this very stressful time, as you juggle work responsibilities and a medical suit. Medical specialists on our team will support you and those close to you as you go through the process.

How it works

As soon as we know that you are involved in a lawsuit or claim, one of our specialists will contact you. He or she will listen to your concerns, explain what will happen during the litigation process, link you with resources and, in general, help you deal with stress and anxiety created by the litigation process. The program is tailored to your needs:

n The specialist is a medical professional who will educate both you and the legal team about the strategic and emotional realities of litigation and how to best prepare for trial.

n Typically, the assigned specialist speaks with people during times of greatest pressure: before depositions, before trial and each night of the trial — to help relieve as much stress as possible.

n Rather than discuss the details of the case, the specialist talks about the emotional and physical toll exacted by the legal process and your specific concerns.

You will benefit from this program in two important ways. First, you’ll experience less emotional trauma as a defendant and be better able to assist in your defense. Second, by dealing more effectively with stress, you’ll be better able to serve your own patients during the discovery and litigation process.

Having an experienced communications professional in your corner during a crisis can make all the difference. MMIC partners with skilled communications experts to help you manage communications during a crisis and provide effective messages to your employees, your patients and the media.

It’s simple. If you are involved in an adverse event that may generate negative media attention, contact us. We’ll pair you with one of our media experts. They’ll work with you to create a plan of action with the goal of protecting your reputation and the reputation of your staff and organization.

TO REPORT A CLAIM

CONTACT US WHEN

n There is an unexpected outcome resulting in injury to the patient.

n A birth results in injury or death of the infant or mother. (In this instance, you may want to consider preserving the placenta for future testing.)

n You are served with a lawsuit.

n You receive a letter from an attorney stating that they are making a claim on behalf of a patient against a physician, hospital or facility.

n A failed medical device results in patient injury. Be sure to secure the defective device for future testing. Do not send the device back to the manufacturer for testing until you consult with us.

n You are contacted by a licensing board that states they are commencing an investigation.

n We insure the premises for general liability. Notify us of any reported injuries or property damage that occurs on the premises.

INCLUDE THIS INFORMATION WHEN YOU REPORT AN INCIDENT

n If you submit a claim online, you need only to complete the form provided there.

n If you submit a claim via email, please include the following information:

– The name and preferred phone number of the insured or contact person at the facility who will assist us with scheduling appointments or obtaining records

– Policy number of the insured

– The name of the involved physician or health care professional, phone number and email address

– The name, address, phone number and date of birth of the involved patient

– The date of occurrence and, if suit papers are served, the date of receipt

– Copies of any claim correspondence or suit papers

– Copies of the patient record, along with any report of a potential claim or suit

– A brief description of the allegation or event leading to the claim
