Clandon Regis is proud to have gained the reputation as ‘Surrey’s friendliest club’. Since Clandon Regis became a members’ owned club on May 31, 1996, the Club has gone from strength to strength. It is a challenging course to golfers of all abilities. With a par of 72 and 6485 yards off the back tees, it has a number of holes that require carries over water and some dog legs which demand careful club selection. The course has no temporary tees or greens and is playable all year round. The members, led by their volunteer board of directors and dedicated committees, are determined to keep Clandon Regis at the forefront of golfing.

The Course

Clandon Regis Golf Course is a pleasure to play. Set in 170 acres of prime Surrey parkland, the 6485 yard par 72 golf course utilises the natural undulations of the landscape and, whilst not flat, there are no ‘cardiac’ hills. Natural and manmade lakes and strategically placed bunkers ensure that Clandon Regis is a good test of golf for players of all abilities.

The construction of the course is of thehighest standard. The greens and tees meetfull USGA specifications. The course wasbuilt into the existing parkland of the ClandonRegis Estate and all its mature trees havebeen retained.

Since the completion of the course, severalthousand more trees and shrubs have beenplanted. making this not only a challengingcourse to play, but also a highly scenic one.Our highly qualified, green keeping staff areconstantly looking for ways to improve the‘playability’ and appearance of this course.

The Club’s History

Opened in June 1994, Clandon Regis Golf Club is built into the historic parkland of the Clandon Regis Estate, near Guildford. The golf course was designed by David Williams - consultant architect to the European Tour for many years. Clandon Regis quickly earned the status of Championship Course following its choice for the final of the PGA SouthernProfessional Championship in 1995, and then again in 1996.

You could say that the members liked the clubso much, they bought it, and in 1996 theyacquired full ownership from the previousproprietor.

The new owners/members have ensured that Clandon Regis is rapidly becoming one of Surrey’s finest courses.

Take the Course Tour

Hole 1

A nice gentle starting hole. The second shotis to an uphill green, so always play one moreclub than you think.

Hole 2

A partially blind tee shot to a front-to-backsloping two tiered green heavily bunkeredto the right. Over hit and a ditch or “out ofbounds” awaits.

Hole 3

The safe drive is left of centre to avoid thetwo bunkers down the right. Then avoid thehidden bunker on the right of the three tieredgreen which dips sharply in the middle.

Hole 4

The ditch is blind from the Men’s medal tee.A long drive aimed at the marker is neededto make it in two. A larger bunker on the leftprotects a left-to-right sloping green.

Hole 5

Beware of the ditch on the left, approachingthe green, which is a lateral water hazard. Theright-to-left borrow of the green is far greaterthan is apparent.

Hole 6

A deceptive short par 3 which has the greenwell guarded by hidden bunkers in the front,to the right and at the back.

Hole 7

Watch out for the “out of bounds” to the rightof the fairway from tee-to-green. Bunkers leftand right protect the way into this green which slopes heavily from left-to-right.

Hole 8

Bunkers protect both sides of the fairwaywhile two hidden bunkers short of the greenawait the “ultra safe”. The green slopes backto-front and is not easy to read.

Hole 9

Beware the “out of bounds” to the right ofthe fairway. A well hit tee shot aimed left ofthe green sets up the best approach to thisshallow heavily bunkered green.

Hole 10

Accuracy is required here, particularly fromthe Men’s medal tee, to navigate the narrowgap in the trees and avoid the “out of bounds”. Otherwise an easy par 4.

Hole 11

One of our signature holes. A long carry overwater to an undulating green.

Hole 12

A straight forward par 5 but the green is wellguarded by bunkers and slopes from back-tofront. Attack this hole.


Hole 13

Drive left of centre but avoid the bunkers onthe side of the fairway which are hidden fromthe Men’s medal tee. Otherwise, not a difficulthole. The green slopes from back-to-front.

Hole 14

A long drive must avoid the “out of bounds”to the left of the fairway and the lateral waterhazard to the right. This still leaves an heroicapproach short to a steep back-to-front sloping green well-guarded by water and sand.

Hole 15

An accommodating par 5 but a well-directedsecond shot is needed to avoid the two largetrees protecting the approach to the green.The green slopes from back-to-front.

Hole 16

An approach shot right of the flag is the bestoption to avoid the hidden bunkers in frontand the left of the green. The green slopesslightly from back-to-front.

Hole 17

The surrounding trees make the holedeceptively long, so don’t under club. A twotiered green sloping from back-to-front.

Hole 18

A truly spectacular hole to finish with. A longdrive, then only a short-to-mid iron shot, butavoid the lake and the bunkers to the rightand the back of the green. The green andsurrounds slope steeply to the left-to-right.



Local Wildlife

At Clandon Regis we have a group of volunteer members working tirelessly to protect wildlife and increase and improvethe stock of trees around the course. We are fortunate to have a good starting point with ponds, some fine stands of trees and hedgerows rife with wildlife. However, still looking to improve the landscape, we started the Conservation Fund which generates money for tree-planting, bulb-growing etc.

Amongst the first efforts was a beautifulavenue of ornamental pear trees at theentrance and, by the 16th green, willows withred stems that glow in winter. As stewardsof some very fine trees, we need to providesuccessors for these as well as progressivelyreplacing or supplementing specimens whichare ‘below par’.

The Conservation Trophy - a twice a yearcompetition - was started as a fundraiser fortrees, hedgerows and wildlife. It is a nonqualifying competition aimed at getting

as many members involved to increase funds and gain support. Since the Conservation Fund began, fund raising events and competitions continue to raise money towards the upkeep of the environment around the course.

In 2001, a “sponsor a tree” initiative beganwhich enabled the planting of the pear treeavenue along the drive and at various othersites around the course.

Championships and Events

At Clandon Regis we have four well established Open Competitions across the sections. Most of these are played in August and offer a fun and friendly day out for all.

Our Seniors’ Open is open to anyone overthe age of 55 who holds an active handicap.In 2013 we will hold our 9th annual eventwhich has always been oversubscribed. Thisis an 18-hole Stableford event with prizes forthe winning team and individuals. It includescoffee and bacon rolls on arrival, a shotgunstart competition, followed by lunch and

presentations. Entrants are taken in teams of4 or other variations that can then be mixedwith other entrants to make a team.

Our Ladies’ Open, now in its fourth year, alsodraws a full field. A similar type of day as theSeniors’ Open, it is an 18-holes AggregateStableford Competition played in teams ofthree and also includes coffee and danishpastries on arrival and a buffet lunch.We also have Open competitions for bothJuniors and Men. The Juniors’ event, also held in August, is an individual 18-hole

Medal open to all boys and girls under the age of 18, and is part of the Surrey Order of Merit Competition and Daily Telegraph Qualifier. The Mens’ Open, a relatively new event in comparison, is held on a Sunday in July and comprises a 36 hole Scratch Medal competition with a full day’s catering and prize giving.

Steve Lloyd, who is approaching 40 years of golf coaching experience, offers coaching in all aspects of the game, for beginners, intermediates, elite or professional players.

Tuition fees start at £25 per half hour, plus aspecial rate for members of 5 hours for £100.On course coaching is also available to nonmembers and members alike.

In addition to the fine 18-hole course, there are extensive practice facilities both indoors and out. For members at Clandon Regis the balls for use on all practice areas are free of charge, and these areas are accessible all year round

Our indoor swing centre is the ideal placeto perfect your swing in cold winter months.Facilities include a practice mat with net andputting area with a mirrored wall. You will alsohave the opportunity to have your coachingfilmed. Two mats with nets, a chipping areaand putting green are situated adjacent to theClubhouse.

Membership Information

Clandon Regis Golf Club offers a fun, enjoyable and warm welcome and provides a structured place for golfers to develop their skills with support from qualified coaches. Being a members’ club, it is run by a Board of Directors and section Committees. This means that decisions are made by fellow golfers and long-standing members with only your best interests at heart. The club has no tee-booking-system and the course is open at all times to 2-ball, 3-ball and 4 -ball games. You can be involved as much or as little as you like!

Should you wish to hold a special event, wedding, birthday or anniversary, as a full member of the club you have free use of the clubhouse and facilities.

Clandon Regis Golf Club has no temporary greens or tees and is often playable when others are closed.

Swipe Card

Each member is issued with a Gold Membership Card. This card is used on the entrances to locker rooms and indoor practice facilities and can be used to enter competition scores onto the computer, at the bar for food and drink purchases and to book tickets for social events.

For members over the age of 18, it is mandatory on joining that a levy of £50 is paid. This is credited to your card for you to use at the bar, offering a 5% discount on all food and drink purchased. Any subsequent top ups to the card can be made at the bar using cash, cheque or debit card and must be done so in increments of £50.

Junior (8 to 17 years)

Clandon Regis Golf Club has an active Juniors’ section and we are always keen to encourage new young members. A full fixtures calendar and the opportunity to join regular coaching programmes organised by our professional is available.Joining Fee: N/A

For Junior Members, their Parent/Guardian may choose to credit their card and this can be done in the same way at the bar, but in £25 increments.

Clandon Regis Golf Club is keen to encourage its younger Membership and also offers a competitive rate to those joining aged between 18 and 26. This rate applies whether you have been a junior Member or not. We have also introduced attractive rates for new prospective members up to age 35.

Playing Categories

MenThe Men’s section competes for many prestigious cups and trophies throughout the year. Some are stand-alone competitions, withothers spanning over a period of months or even 36 hole events at the weekend. Generally, the Men play on Wednesdays and at the weekends, where a predominately strong field of entrants tee off from 8am.

Along with the Club Championships, manyhighly contested trophies include the DannyCup, played over 9 rounds across the summer

months. These are all day roll ups that allowmembers to turn up at any point during theday and encourage a large field to be ableto get their scores entered. The Collett Cupis a 36-hole Medal, generally played on aSaturday in May - a handicap event played inhandicap order for the first round, which thendetermines your afternoon start time as theleaders will tee off last.

Weekend competitions are largely sign-upcompetitions, all done online. See our websitefor more details. A high handicap group meet

every other Wednesday morning, with the 1sttee reserved 09.30 – 10.45. This group is tohelp those new to the game or club or who donot have a handicap, or those who have beenallocated one above 24. They are a friendlybunch who meet in the clubhouse first thing,and then go on to play 9 holes to work on their handicap and improve their game. This is also an opportunity to meet other members and to get a card marked to submit for an initial handicap allocation.

LadiesThe Ladies’ section is very active and friendly, with many new ladies commenting on how quickly they have settled in and feel welcomedby so many members. Tuesday is our Ladies’ day again, with various competitions and events running throughout the year. Also with a start time of 8am, strong fields enable themto fill the tee until approx. 11am most weeks. Ladies also have a weekend slot, playing each week on alternate Saturdays or Sundays.

In the summer months, a relaxed 9 holeStableford competition is organised, twicemonthly, on Thursday mornings. As with theMen, the Ladies have their “36 Club” - a groupof ladies who have a high handicap and wishto play with people of the same ability beforeplaying in the major competitions. The Ladiesalso use the online facility for competitionsign-up and have a comprehensive sectionon the club website.

They very much enjoy an active social sideof the club, organising away days and nightsto other clubs and attractions, arranging rulesafternoons and Christmas fayres. Once ayear the committee arrange an exchange dayin which we open our Tuesday mornings toanother club and our ladies play their course.


Junior members have achieved much over the years. Many have moved on to become club champions or winners of other prestigious competitions. This is reflected in the team events. In 2012, the Junior team were winners of the 90s League Tournament. Since most of the players are between only 12 and 15 years of age, this bodes well for the future of Junior golf at Clandon Regis.

Our Aim…

• To provide access for all Junior Members and potential Junior Members to the Clandon Regis Junior Golf Academy.• To provide coaching for all Junior Members through regular Group Coaching and individual lessons by the Club’s Professional Staff.• To enable Junior Members to obtain an Official Handicap as soon as they have demonstrated appropriate ability and knowledge of the principal Rules of Golf and golf course etiquette.• To provide competitions for Junior Members to enable them to obtain and maintain an Official Handicap.• To provide interclub friendly matches and league matches for Junior Members to introduce them to other local golf courses.• To allow Junior Members with an Official Handicap to participate in appropriate Men’s & Ladies’ Section competitions and Mixed Competitions.

JuniorsAt Clandon Regis we are keen to encourage and develop active participation in golf by young people and to encourage Junior membership of the Club. Our professional team offers support where it can, includinggroup coaching sessions in the school holidays, private tuition throughout the year, along with words of support and encouragement from fellow members of all ages.



Playing Categories (continued)

SeniorsThe Seniors’ Section provides a regular programme of friendly competitions and matches against other local golf clubs and social events for all male members of the club aged 55 or over. It has a formal written constitution and is administered by an annually elected Chairman and Committee who try to cater for the needs of all Senior Members, regardless of playing abilities.

Seniors’ competitions normally take placeon Monday mornings throughout the year.A 9-hole competition has recently been

introduced for those Seniors not wanting toplay the full 18 holes. The Monday morningcompetitions vary in format, be it a Stableford,a Medal, a Four Ball Better Ball, a TexasScramble or Three Clubs and a Putter etc.

In spring, summer and autumn we have many competitions, which include a more formal Stableford, a scratch competition for the Duhig Trophy, a handicap competition for the Rajan Shield and a knockout competition for the Mabbs Trophy, with those eliminated in the first two rounds then competing for the Mabbs

Plate. There are also two pairs competitions: a Summer League and a Winter League.

The Seniors play an annual match againstThe Club Staff and play against the Ladies forthe Nicholls Plate in the spring and autumnof each year. They have a full programme offriendly matches against other local golf clubs on a home and away basis.

Social events are an important part of theSeniors Section’s activities. In Decemberthere is an evening dinner to which membersinvite their ladies.


Visitors

Visitors are welcome to Clandon Regis Golf Club throughout the week and at certain times at weekends. We have excellent facilities both on and off the course and endeavour to provide a day out to remember. With our wonderful, challenging course, together with first class facilities and catering, you can look forward to an excellent round followed by top class food and drink. Our friendly staff always extend a warm welcome.

Please read our rules on dress code and handicap certificates to ensure your visit runsas smoothly as possible.

During week days we accept 2-for-1 Vouchersand County Cards.

* Handicap CertificatesA handicap certificate is not required to play at Clandon Regis Golf Club.


Dress CodeOur dress code is printed so that visitors do not inadvertently wear incorrect clothing.

Golf Shoes

Proper golf shoes must be worn on the course at all times. Inside, golf shoes of any type may only be worn in the locker rooms and Pro’s Shop.

Shirts

On the course, all shirts must have a collar ora rolled neck; men’s shirts must be “tuckedin”. Ladies may wear sleeveless shirts.

Shorts

Must be tailored and long, for everyone at all times.

Socks

Men should preferably wear long socks withshorts but short white socks will be accepted.

Hats and Caps

Please do not wear headgear in the clubhouse.

Diners

Men must wear jackets & ties after 7.30pmwhen dining.

Forbidden clothing anywhere at ClandonRegis Golf Club:

‘T’ shirts, denim & all jeans, leggings,tracksuits and trainers. (In the case of juniorsthere may be some relaxation of the Jeans/trainers ban when these are considered to befashion items).

It is expected everyone will endeavor to wear‘smart’ golf dress on the course and ‘smart’casual dress in the Clubhouse.

At Clandon Regis we take pleasure in designing golf day packages to suit your requirements. Societies are welcome to play midweek at Clandon Regis Golf Club throughout the year. Course availability is best on Thursdays or Fridays but it may be possible to accommodate groups at other times by arrangement with the Club Manager.

Society Catering

We realise that each society has differentrequirements and so we have priced eachoption for you to be able to pick and choose as you require or budget for the day.Of course, we will cater for any guest with

special dietary requirements such as vegetarian or celiac, so please ensure you inform us of special menu required different to your chosen selection. If there is anything you would like, and that is not mentioned on your menu list, please feel free to contact our Functions Manager to discuss your options further.

Bar and Catering

As a members’ club the Clubhouse and the facilities are available for use all year round, with Christmas Day being the only day we are closed. A fully stocked bar awaits the golfer for a swift half, a nice glass of wine, a hot chocolate or coffee before, or after, their game. Generally, the bar and kitchen are open from 9 am, serving a range of items from Bacon Rolls to get you started, a tasty Panini for lunch or a traditional freshly battered Fish & Chips meal on a Friday! A full Bar menu along with a range of daily specials is available until 5pm with the bar closing at normal hours in the summer months. (These opening hours are slightly reduced during the winter period).

The entrance to the Golf Club is on a dual carriageway. You need to be on the East-bound side of the A246 (in the direction of Horsley and Leatherhead).

The nearest railway station is Clandon Station(Station Road West Clandon, GU4 7TE),which is around two miles or a five-minutetaxi ride away. The nearest mainline stationis Guildford.

Please Note:When using a satellite navigation system, if you enter your postcode, it may take you to the entrance of the Clandon Regis House. This is not the entrance to the Club. Please be awarethat the main entrance to the Golf Club is on the A246, Epsom Road Dual Carriageway heading towards Leatherhead.
