Alpacas and Llamas

Oh Momma!

Do you have Alpacas and/or Llamas that you would like

to exhibit at the Clark County Fair? It could happen but . . . .

First we need to get 6 confirmed animals registered for the fair before this even gets off the ground.

If that happens we need to find a superintendent—someone who is familiar with these animals.

So to start the ball rolling—if you have alpacas and/or llamas that you would like to exhibit please contact our office with the number of animals you would exhibit.

Once we reach the magic number of 6 (or more) we will contact the fair board and start looking for a judge and superintendent (hopefully someone from one of the families who want to exhibit these animals).

February 2019 Page 7

Hello Hollar Here, I have made reference to the Wisconsin 4-H Program being “dinged” by our Federal Funders for not having “parity” in our 4-H program. Parity means having equal representation of people living in our community being represented in our 4-H programs. Namely underserved audiences: Women, People with Limited English Proficiency, Veterans, People with Disabili-ties, Hispanics/Latinos, African Americans, American Indians/Native Americans, Asians, Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders, People of two or more races. Every three years a similar letter will be sent to all the 4-H Partners, these are places of business or establishments that host our 4-H club meetings, our dairy and livestock education-al sessions/weigh-ins, our family fun events (bowling, Bruce Mound, Schuster’s Farm, Clark County Fair, etc.) and much more. In the coming weeks the entities of where you hold your meetings will be receiving this letter. It is imperative that your meeting place connection “lead” receives this letter, “SIGNS IT” and returns it to our office. Let me clarify – this is coming from the Federal Government (we can say Extension because the funds are funneled through them), but ultimately it was the Federal Government that “dinged” our state and those are the ones who keep the 4-H program funded. From our end we must do “Do Diligence” in sending out these letters informing our partners (AKA meeting locations) that the 4-H program does not discriminate. If you read the Nondiscrimination FAQ sheet – you may see a few red flags particularly for groups that meet in places of worship or buildings attached to places of worship. I did seek further clarification (because in the FAQ sheet it is easy to “muddy” the waters): The partner who is signing the letter of non-discrimination is stating that they understand that the 4-H program meeting in their space will not discriminate. Stated another way “Christ the in King Catholic Parish staff or lay people WILL not request or require a 4-H member to leave because they have a disability, are gay, transgendered, continue down the list of underserved audiences” who may be physically sitting in the Christ the King Fellowship Hall at the Hollar Hornet’s 4-H meeting on Thursday evening. These letters will be coming directly from the Extension Clark County Office. Once received, there will be a 3 to 4 day turnaround time to have their letter signed, and returned. If they are not signed, we will have follow up calls and conversations. Again it is imperative that we have 100% compliance with these letters. On April 17, 2019 the Extension Clark County Office will have a Civil Rights review looking at all our documentation and efforts to reach underserved audiences. One additional thing you will see is when I (Chris Hollar) attend a meeting. I will need club members to complete Demographic Data forms so I can appropriately collect data from each club that I visit and/or meeting I attend and report that to the state. (I haven’t done that in three years so I am a little behind – I did not realize that what I was entering into 4-H online needed to be reported in another area in a different format until 2 weeks ago – oops)! This is definitely new for me and may be new for many of you so please ask questions and we will do our best to clarify and seek clarity. This will also be sent via email once I get the “okay” to move forward and that will have what the letter looks like and the fact sheet.
