Class of 2018 Graduation Plan

• Texas Legislature passed HB 5 and created a new graduation plan

House Bill 5

• Class of 2018 (current 9th graders) and after

• Differs slightly from the Recommended and Distinguished Plan

• More flexibility when choosing courses

Foundation High School Program + Endorsement

– 26 Total Credits – English (4 credits)

– Eng. 1,2, 3 and advanced English

– Math (3 credits) – Algebra 1, Geometry, and advanced Math

– Science (3 credits) – Biology, IPC, or an advanced science and additional

advanced science

– Social Studies (3 credits) – U.S. History, Government, Economics and World History

OR World Geography

Requirements

– Other Language (2 credits) in the Same language – Fine Arts (1 credit) – Physical Education (1 credit) – Speech (Demonstrate Proficiency) – Electives (5 credits) – + Endorsement (4 credits)

– 4th Math

– 4th Science

– 2 endorsement-specific electives

• A STEM endorsement is earned by completing: – 5 credits in math

– Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and two advanced math courses

• Four or more credits with at least two in the same career cluster including at least one advanced CTE course

Public Service

• An Arts and Humanities endorsement is earned by completing: – A coherent sequence of four credits from one or two

disciplines in fine arts – Band, Art, Choir, Theater Arts, Technical Theater I-IV

– Dual Foreign Language – Two levels in two Foreign Languages

– Spanish I, Spanish II, and Latin I, Latin II

Arts and Humanities

• 4 advanced courses from other endorsement areas • Four credits in each of the four foundation subject

areas to include English IV and Chemistry and/or Physics

• Four credits in advanced placement or dual credit selected from English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Economics

Freshman Year Checklist

GPA and Rank Colleges look at all four years of high school Classes that count for GPA / Rank:

Core classes (Math, Science, English, Social Studies)

Foreign Language

Jr. High courses for High School credit do not count (ex. Algebra 1)

Have student complete a four-year plan with counselor

Transcripts and Four-Year Plans

• Students will receive a course request packet

– This includes a course request form that needs to be completed by student and parent

• Counselors will be available during the school day and from 4:30 to 6:00 on Wednesday, February 4th and Monday, February 9th for questions.

– Appointments are not necessary but can be made to accommodate your schedule

• The course catalog can be found online or a copy can be requested.

Pre-Registration Process

• Students will enter their course requests through TxMyZone on Tuesday, February 10th with the assistance of counselors.

• Each student will receive a printed copy of the courses they are requesting for next year.

• Changes to the courses can be made until May 29th, 2015.

How will registration work?

TxMyZone

– February 2, 2015- Grade level presentation for next year scheduling.

– February 4 and 9, 2015- Counselors available for parent questions during the normal school day and from 4:30-6:00 P.M. at High School

– February 10, 2015- Students to library to enter to courses on the computer

– March 30, 2015- English I EOC – May 4, 2015- Biology EOC – May 5, 2015- Algebra I EOC
